Year of Composed Work for Classical Music

Hi all, I listened to classical music quite a bit , I noticed some music titles shows year of composed work, is this one of the metadata resources in Roon? Some classical music titles without year of composed work, is there anyway to set this metadata in Roon Setting?

In the Composition browser, there is a column for the date of a composition. Use the “3 dots” menu on the right by a composition entry and choose Edit. That will bring up the Composition editor. Scroll down to show the fields for the composition start and end dates:

I’m afraid that you will have to edit each composition individually - it is not currently possible to edit multiple compositions at once (it has been asked for, but not implemented).

Thanks for your sharing Geoff on the composition year/date can be edited for my own music collection (ripped from CDs)

What about those music from streaming music providers like Tidal or Qobuz ? Are they providing us the composition year/date in their music’s metadata or by Roon?

Well, don’t forget that the Composition browser is looking at the compositions in your library. That means that the metadata, even for compositions that have been sourced from Qobuz, Tidal or KKBOX, is provided by Roon’s master database (in the cloud). So if Roon Labs have been able to fill out the metadata for a composition, it will be there.

Classical metadata from Qobuz or Tidal is very limited. AFAIK these services not even have structured data for recognizing compositions or assigning recordings to a composition, so there is neither composition year nor Opus number or anything provided.

Everything composition-related you see in roon, comes from roon´s internal metadata sources, Xperi and MusicBrainz. The underlying data is good for many composers, particularly those with a canonical Opus catalogue (such as Köchel V. for Mozart), but far from comprehensive.

You might want to make sure that the album itself and the composition details contained in the track names, have been properly identified by roon. There are lots of cases in which roon cannot identify the composition just based on what it sees in the files. Fixing identification issues of local albums can dramatically improve the percentage of compositions for which you have composition year. Example:

Lots of Telemann concertos offering no composition details. Apparently not identified due to lack of TWV number in the tracks, in some cases even not as a multi-part composition:

Roon´s own metadata was flawed, unfortunately, so I had to tag this album manually.

Could you show examples which compositions are not having an assigned composition year pls?
