Roon does not delete your speaker groups in the Google Home app. Using the Google Home app to group Chromecast (audio) devices is the way to setup playback groups for Roon. Check, and recreate if needed, your playback group in the Google Home app please and report your findings. See also:
I grouped all my Chromecast speakers (two KEF LSX II, one KEF LS50 Wireless II, two Google Nest Audio) into a single zone. That has been working for weeks.
Today at 12:15pm, the audio suddenly stopped. The grouped zone was gone. And the “Group” button so I can recreate the zone is gone.
I was able to find “Google Chromecast group” as disabled under the Audio settings, so I was able to enable it, and the zone was there.
I don’t know why the “Group” button disappeared, I had to find the disabled zone under Audio settings and re-enable it.
This issue happened about a month ago also, so it’s the second time.
Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report! If you reboot both Roon and Roon Server, do your endpoints reappear properly? Or, if you reboot your server machine itself, does it reset things properly?
When a device disconnects from your server and auto-disables, and if you then only have a single endpoint enabled/active, it will remove the group option when clicking into that zone.
I’d simplify your network connections to your chromecast devices while you continue to test.
Feel free to respond here! We’ll be monitoring for your reply, thank you!
