While I appreciate roon providing icons for the endpoints (a WiiM Pro Plus in my case) I’d much rather have zone icons that reflect the zone - in this case a pair of speakers, in others a headphone.
Is it really that contentious to offer a broader selection there? The only speakers I can find have a desk or TV icon with them…
Well you said “I’d much rather have zone icons that reflect the zone”, and you have them in the zone settings. You didn’t mention Settings > Audio at all. So I answered the question that you asked.
In Settings > Audio they show the default icon, I guess to make it recognizable when setting up the device, which one does approx. once.
There are zone icons for speakers (the ropieee at the top) that I can’t select from the icon dialog.
Given that there is a general lack of icons this is… unfortunate.
What I’m saying is that I’d like to be able to have a speaker icon instead of the WiiM icon for that zone, but I can’t because the generic speaker icon is not in the list of icons.

For starters, Ropieee is a bridge, so doesn’t have an icon. It is the hat or USB attached DAC that does. In your setup the generic speaker icon means the attached device is not Roon Tested.
Roon Ready and Roon Tested devices have a bespoke icon.
And what I said is that I’d like the zone icon to be the generic speaker, but that is not available.

Not sure why since this icon is in the infrequently visited audio device settings only, and you are at liberty to change any zone icon.
I don’t that Room would allow device icons to be changed since they have a clear purpose. However, you could request that a generic speaker icon is made available under Edit zone icon in Feedback > Feature Suggestions.
If you do, maybe keep it broad so other users may suggest other icons, e.g. a pair of stand mounted speakers, and support the request.
You should be able to make the Speaker “Device” icon be the default, if you simply dis-identify your WIIM in the audio section. If Memory serves, the icon from the audio section is just a badge to offer a picture of the rendering device for devices that were submitted and pass Roon Tested or Roon Ready.
The physical attributes and capabilities of the actual device are discovered by, and sent back by Raat scurrying over the Bridge to the server and then remote for display.
In audio, device config, select “Not my Device” – changes to default speaker icon.
Then verify the capabilities for MQA, DSD, Sample rate and bits/sample.
Then back on Roon Remote the zone icon will have “Default Icon” Speaker available in top left.
