It can be identified if you added it to MusicBrainz yourself. All albums can be identified if we take the time to add ones missing from metadata sources. Adding albums to MusicBrainz is really pretty simple.
I appreciate the passion. What I didnât appreciate was the dogmatic âcustomer desires be damnedâ approach.
But MB doesnât allow everything. Wadeâs bootleg probably qualifies, but not everything does. Iâd guess there is a grey area e.g. with homemade recordings.
While we welcome bootlegs, we discourage adding home-made compilations or mixtapes. These kinds of releases are not widely available and any information about them is typically only useful to the individual who created them. Releases such as these are usually removed from our database.
Off topic, but in the case of a backup generator or solar power, a Transfer Switch takes over for these alternate power sources. It has been documented in Stereophile magazine- Michael Fremer that audio quality takes a big hit due to grounding issues. Did you notice this happening?
What does this mean exactly?
Today, weâre announcing a return to Roonâs pre-2.0 behavior. This means our users can once again enjoy their music collections without the need for continuous internet connectivity.
Itâs definitely going to be interesting to see what the Roon designers come up with. Fingers crossed that they can make the users who want folder browsing happy whilst keeping us users that donât need it smiling as well! Who knows they might even convert some of us, so called âhatersâ.
Iâm not a fan of skeumorpic design anymore, that ship has sailed. Until it becomes fashionable again
, so hopefully they donât go down any pseudo 3D path.
It was never about this on Roonâs part, read up on Dannyâs comments. Folder browsing never fit within their view of what the product should be. Simple as that.
If you ran a shop would and set it up exactly how you wanted would you want your customers coming in and telling you to move your products. You might say âsorry this is how it was when you arrived and I donât wish to change it, maybe you should try a different shop that suits your requirementsâ.
Or maybe you might be more open
.
Anyway itâs all moot now.
I agree with you on this. Having spent 18 months with an inconsistent internet connection and arguing with the NBN over whose problem it was until they fixed it.
Not being able to play music consistently was really frustrating.
Iâd say itâs more like a burger shop that refused to sell chips/fries. Fair to be surprised they donât serve themâŚ
Yeah, it was a pretty bad analogy on my part
. Need another coffee.
Exactly what it says. Prior to this update Roon 2.0 needed a consistent internet connection to work, which made a lot of us very annoyed not to be able to play our own files when this happens. Unfortunately we donât all have stable internet.
I didnât notice any difference in SQ if it was there. I was just happy that we had power, heat, music and 300 4K/Blu-rays to choose from. No cable TV because the internet provider went out with the power. Everything around us was dark for hours during the blackouts.
Actually, if I ran a shop I would presumably want to make as much money as possibleâunless it was a hobby business, of course. If I repeatedly had customers come in asking for something I think I would be inclined to offer it, and not try to talk them out of wanting it in the first place.
And yes, hopefully moot at this point. ![]()
But not everyone has that as their main goal. Money is boring. Some people want to build something new that excites them, and I always had the idea thatâs what the Roon guys were doing. It wasnât a product â it was an adventure! And we were sold tickets to go along on their ride! Cool! Or at least thatâs what I was seeing.
Looks like that kind of idea exploration may not fit with Harmanâs goals.
If it wasnât a product I was seriously overcharged! ![]()
Itâs just the pendulum swinging slightly more towards the middle. Nothing more.
âŚand I thought no one was listening. Thank you so much for fixing this.
It might qualify. Technically, itâs not a bootleg (permission to download was explicitly granted to parents of band members), or a home recording. Itâs certainly not compiled from tracks off of other published works.
However, it is an âunpublishedâ work with the copyright retained by the Air Cadets Organisation (or possibly the RAF) and only about 50 copies can legally exist.
That being the case, why would I want to upload the meta data to Musicbrainz (or anywhere else).
Hooray for ditching the constant internet connection requirement, for honouring the terms for the lifetimers, and for refocusing.
As Iâve seen multiple great products turn for the worse after acquisition, Iâm still moderately and cautiously sceptical, but you guys are making it hard, not to become too enthusiastic. Let us hope the many Roon users at Harman, will want to keep the product great too.
Who knows. Maybe a brief interruption on developing new functionality and giving the product a goed overhoul to rule out technical problems wouldnât be such a bad thing. I really hope that they get more recources on the Support Front.
And if Harman gives the Roon team space for further development that might just be even better.
Sounds like you may have a machine problem or you have a library that need rebuilding - Iâm running Roon on a base spec Mac Mini M1 with zero issues. Iâve also run it on my AMD3900XT based system, again with zero issues. In both cases, both boot and media storage are SSD
