This seems to have been extended. They made some launch in the US buzz recently, but Elite still is under wraps.
Iâm not sure I get the lossless and Sonos connection . Their speakers arenât exactly audiophile territory . They are nice
for portable use .
Agreed - but convenient and sometimes more appropriate for outdoor social setups, this is where my kids love Spotify or Pandora and donât understand the fuss about Dadâs obsession with Roon/ TIDAL inside the house
Sonos Connect ZP90 outputs CD quality right in to your high end audio system. I have a modified one with i2S (over HDMI - Fits Wyred4Sound and PS Audio DACs.)
Roon compatible ?
I often use a pair of Play 5 to stream Qobuz and play my music collection (both in lossless format)
whilst not for sure âaudiophile territoryâ they are pretty good and⊠hardly portable
As far as I know Sonos doesnât make any portable speakers. Certainly none that are battery operated. Sonos can handle up to 24/48 files, and the âConnectâ has no speaker at allâŠjust a network music player that can feed digital music to your system (similar to a Squeezebox Touch, SB3, Transporter, Duet Receiver).
EDIT: Correction. I donât think SONOS will play 24/48 files. SONOS streams the files as 24 bit (as does Squeezebox) in order to better handle digital volume controls. Of course Squeezeboxes can play 24/48 (or 24/96 on Touch and Transporter, or 24/192 on TOUCH with EDO plugin).
I used to move Sonos S5âs around all the time .

I suppose portable in that they can be used wireless and all you have to do is move to a new location and plug in. Iâll buy that as portable.
I wish Sonos would partner with Roon. That might solve the shortage of music services in Roon since Sonos has partnered with multiple music services. Proper integration would be another matter altogether.

1st generation, I guess
Yeah I think so.
I like your thinking, but I think youâd have a conflict of user interfaces. I think youâd get stuck with using the Sonos interface and then selecting Roon like youâd select an external input on a Sonos, then switching too Roon.
The integration would certainly be an issue, but Roon partnering with Sonos could also open a door with Deezer and/or other companies who have relationships with Sonos. If the companies involved can work it out to their advantage for their respective businesses, we all win. I can use Deezer Elite with Sonos for CD quality streaming, and Roon for my personally owned collection, but would sure prefer sticking with Roon for everything.
and your own collection will be the dying partâŠ
Not for me. I buy the music I really like. More so recently with Roon Tidal streaming since I listen to a greater number of varied artists which I never would have checked out before. Having more streaming options is not a bad thing.
