Today I discovered something strange and promising at the same time.
I’m speaking about the AirPlay lossless/AAC issue.
On Mac if I choose AirPlay in Music app, then the stream is converted in AAC, as confirmed by others.
Here’s the interesting thing: if I choose AirPlay system wide (through volume icon on the menu bar) the stream remains lossless!
The lossless icon is shown and Command-I → File on the played track shows Lossless instead of AAC.
Now, I don’t know how Music app handles lossless streaming on mobile devices (iPhone/iPad) with AirPlay. I don’t know how to check.
It seems that at least on Mac is possible to achieve lossless 44.1 kHz AirPlay with Apple Music. Assuming that the informations provided are real…
