Well, same error. What was „done“?
I turned UPnP on the router off and back on , re-booted the LAN and the nucleus and it’s still showing 'not ready” and the initial sync failed [though it took longer to fail!]
Ok, that’s a bit weird, I guess. I have no experience with your router, though. Maybe have your tech guy take a look? Maybe it’s more reliable to set up port forwarding manually.
The initial sync should be done while the phone is on the WiFi, though, and in this case the whole UPnP / port forwarding stuff doesn’t matter at all. So if this is still failing anyway, you can just leave it at that and take care of it later if and when ARC manages to sync with your library.
Thanks again. I’ve emailed my techie and reminded him [thanks to you] that he dealt with this issue in the past
I’ve had other problems, but not these ones with the router, since I asked my phone company to switch from the new IPv6 to the old IPv4. My entire computer system works better.
I need to do an update. ARC has been working flawlessly on my iPhone 13 for about three weeks now (with 792,000 tracks, remember). The only two real changes were:
- Updating to iOS 26 a few weeks ago, first in beta, now the final version.
- Clearing the Rock core section of “skipped” files; there were a few hundred files in various audio and photo formats. Now I keep it constantly empty; perhaps the library updates more cleanly and smoothly.
In recent weeks, I’ve made many additions to the library; the system updates smoothly and seamlessly, the phone doesn’t overheat, and the app doesn’t crash at all, neither on Wi-Fi nor 5G.
It’s difficult for me to figure out exactly what happened, as it seems ARC hasn’t been updated in the meantime.
Another thing that seems to work is when updating after adding discs to the library, do things slowly, waiting for the program to update.
We’ll see if the app continues to work so well. I imagine it should be perfect with a new iPhone 17?
Today I had to reinstall. I think I know what the problem is. It’s in the “Home” “Added” section: after adding disks to the Core and leaving many disks in the “Home” server, the ARC Home page sometimes fails to update. While the III/“Albums” section always updates without difficulty. Also, the “Home” “Played” section always updates without difficulty. Now the app is starting to become unstable (the phone gets hot, the app constantly crashes, etc.) ALWAYS when the “Home” “Added” fails to update. Reinstalling the app solves the problem. If you don’t touch the Server Home too much, the ARC app can work for weeks without problems. It seems to be a bug in the app, as the “III/” “Album” section always updates without any issues (even in the “Show hidden tracks and album” version). The “Listen Later” section also always updates without any issues.
One strange thing is that on Fridays and Saturdays of the week, there seem to be more problems, and sometimes the connection isn’t perfect, even at home with Wi-Fi.
I’ve done further testing and can confirm the issue is the same as above: the ARC “Home” section doesn’t update properly when discs are inserted into the server’s Home section. The “Albums” section, however, always updates without any issues. Without this issue, ARC would always function stably. I’m adding this message to the feedback section again and I expect the ARC team to resolve this issue soon.
More good news: I’m testing ARC with a new iPhone 17 (not Pro), 8GB RAM, and a new processor. So far, it’s working well, even the “Home” page seems to update better—just for the first few hours. We’ll see how it goes in the coming weeks. Overall, ARC works better, faster and smoother, and currently playback over a mobile data network is in its original format (I still talk about a very large library). Further updates will follow.
Update after almost 2 weeks: I’m almost 100% sure that the ARC app works properly with the standard iPhone 17. Only in one case, where I was bulk-adding albums in Hi-Res and doing a lot of database manipulation (adding and deleting many albums), did the app slow down and fail to update even after waiting a long time, so I had to reinstall (in this case, the operation is quick, about 5 minutes, leaving the screen always on). Otherwise, the “III\Albums” section continues to update instantly, while the “Home” section is sometimes a bit delayed, but usually updates: this, in my opinion, could be a bug that I hope the Roon ARC Team will fix. The app runs smoothly, without interruptions, freezes, or reboots, and the phone rarely gets very hot. I was able to listen to music in every situation (except for the situation described at the beginning of the post). With large libraries, it’s currently advisable to install/uninstall if you add or delete many albums at once. I can only imagine that with an iPhone 17 Pro with 12 GB RAM and an even better processor, the app will surely run even better. I’ll do another update in a few weeks.
Hello,
Update: I switched to an iPhone 17 Pro, and things are pretty much the same as the iPhone 17 (as a side note, the audio from the Pro’s speakers is much better).
There’s still this anomaly: when you add albums to the Core app, the *II* II\ page always updates properly and very quickly, while the Home page updates slowly, and if you load a lot of albums, it sometimes doesn’t update. With a lot of albums loaded, especially with Hi RES (20-30-100, etc.), the app can crash after a few seconds, requiring a reinstall. I still don’t understand why the Home page doesn’t update properly; the iPhone 17 Pro has 12 GB of RAM.
If you load a few albums at a time, or just one, the app works well and is stable for a long time (in this case, an iPhone 17 or 17 Pro performs much better than an iPhone 13).
Is the Roon team working to fix this issue and favor large libraries?
Reinstalling the app means losing all downloaded albums, no? [PS to which page does this refer? [he II II\ page]
Sorry, I didn’t specify it clearly; I’ve already said it in other discussions. The III\—I mean, at the bottom of ARC, there are the Home symbols, the search lens, and then "III"—meaning that after pressing "III", it’s above “Albums.” This section always updates well and quickly, regardless of the number of albums inserted into the Core, while the Home page is very slow. I think this is a key issue that the Roon team apparently fails to address.
I also have problems with ARC since it released - even now with an iPhone 17 it just crashes after playing 2-3 songs. I have a very large library, but what I just do not understand: why in Gods name, is it designed to sync the library to the phone!?! Thats doomed to fail! This app should be a remote that accesses the server and the database is ON the server, not the phone. Please fix this fundamental design flaw! Make ARC a client, that gets the data in realtime from the server and streams the selected song.
The last 6 months I invested more time in trouble shooting roon then listening to music. I am a life time user from day one, but if I had to pay monthly, I would have quit a long time ago.
I too have a large library and just got the 17 ProMax and use CarPlay in both my cars but mostly drive in the city and listen offline to hi-res downloaded albums and have decided to make Qobuz the default app with a few DSD albums via ARC when I don’t want a second device with me on the ground. Pleased also to report as I await the new AK HC5 dongle that the older HC2 works with the new phone
