ARC: Support External Storage (eg SD and Micro SD Cards)

Because there has been no new post in that thread since you last opened the thread to read the posts in it. This is just how the forum works…

Thanks for explaining Geoff. I thought the request might have been retired.

Is it still on the ARC roadmap to add the option to choose download location? Internal storage on my MP3 player is limited and I want ARC downloads to go to SD card.

How is there STILL NOT AN OPTION to save to external storage!? I don’t know a single person with a portable music player that doesn’t have a microSD card in it for storage.

I gave up on Roon ARC and have been using Plexamp (w. Plex library mounted off the RoonCore SMB share) for years now due to this limitation. Add in that it is easier to reliably control playback through Home Assistant via Plex, than via Room, and I question why I got a lifetime subscription to Roon.

Throwing my frustration into this thread yet again. Seems like this is a feature that could be easily added. Come on, Roon! It’s a low hanging easy to implement feature that would earn you some good favor from folks! Get it done!

I was able to get Roon to use the entire SD card by having Android reformat the SD card for the entire OS and migrate all the apps to it. Of course, Roon ARC still didn’t work until I uninstalled and reinstalled it. This isn’t a great solution as now all the apps and storage on the system are slowed by having to use the SD as the primary storage, but it allows all the storage to be used by Roon and I’m only using this tablet for music so performance isn’t a problem (yet).

I know is an old request asked many times, but I can’t imagine why is not addressed yet.

I have a DAP with not huge internal storage and I travel a lot without proper connection to my Roon Server. Have the possibility to store offline downloads in external microSD is not a welcome addition but a must if I want to use Roon Arc on the go.

Is something that we will see addressed in the close future?

This only works for certain devices unfortunately and is apparently not stable long term. I tried on my Fiio M23 with no luck. Glad it’s working for you though.
