Interesting, though a drive is always partitioned if it’s supposed to work (even if it’s only one partition). Maybe something about the size.
Good point, details matter. Thanks for the support everyone, I should have used the proper fs from the start
In the end, going to move away from external USB.
Copied 3TB to exFAT drive, working fine on iMac, then never shows up in Roon storage. Other 12TB drive, same process, works fine. So maybe something with the disk.
Just going to use my Synology and make offline, additional backups using these drives.
Fingers crosses, Roon actually seems snappier using the DS1522+
NAS is really the best option. Didn’t know that was on the table here or that would have been my suggestion!
That is weird. I run Paragon software across a bunch of client systems used for media production that I support and they’ve been pretty much flawless barring a few small issues. To clarify, it’s not seen as a drive on a NUC or on the NUC you’re using as your Roon ROCK?
I didn’t have the problem (and Paragon was always fine for me, too), jcat did, but it’s irrelevant now as he switched to exFAT
I’ve been using the trial version of Paragon to great effect, but had other issues like formatting a 4TB WD drive for Synology USB use; no filesystem worked.
Anyway, working on expanding my NAS now and ROCK database seems to perform better from NAS anyway (437K files). Plays DSD conversion with no hiccups etc.
thanks everyone.
