Best native DSD DACs for use with HQPlayer?

ASDM7EC-light is that optimization. But note that modulator doesn’t know what the source rate is. So essentially you are running out of CPU power with your filter selection, and by switching to lighter modulator you are borrowing CPU power from the modulator for the filter.

39 kHz is good one. Please note that this frequency is relative to the source rate and 39 kHz frequency applies to DSD64. At DSD256 it is 39 x 4 = 156 kHz.

I’m not familiar with either one. I couldn’t find D70s from Topping web page, which DAC chip does it have?

Certainly worth it!

Has anyone tried the Cyan RU7 dongle DAC with HQPlayer? I’m curious if the advanced HQPlayer modulators will give a significant sonic improvement over the internal modulator chip. It only supports dsd256, but for those of us with under powered machines for running by HQPlayer maybe this is a feature? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks Jussi.

For Topping D70s, here is the only link left from Apos, TOPPING D70s MQA DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) – Apos Audio

It uses 2 pre-fire AKM4497EQ DAC chips and has 2 DSD filters @37kHz and 65kHz.

Thanks

Thanks. (I try to slow down a bit. )

OK, then it is fine at least with DSD256 and possibly also DSD512. And I recommend using the lower DSD filter setting.

Hi Hao_Lai

I used a Topping D70S successfully with HQPlayer in conjunction with a Gustard U18 DDC. Very good and actually pretty difficult to find something to upgrade to from it. I did eventually decide on a Gustard A26 but it isn’t really that much better than the D70S.

I have also used d70s and u18, d70s is really good. But now I have upgraded to A26, and its Lan input is the best. If you try to use an audio-grade switch, A26 cannot lose, and u18 is no longer needed.

Thanks. I will try DSD512 as well.

Good to know.

Thanks. If A26 is just a small improvement from D70s + DDC, I might just go to Spring 3, after trying the D70s for the next while.

I use an RME ADI2 (AKM4493) in DSDdirect, I have the choice between 50 or 150 khz for the DSD filter.
I have currently set it to 50, but is this the right choice given that I am using HQPlayer Desktop with SDM 256?

Yes, that is the best choice. 50 kHz corresponds to 200 kHz at DSD256.

I use my T+A DAC8 DSD exclusively for DSD (512) line direct to the amplifier (without using its pre). Has anyone compared with the new T+A DAC200 in this configuration to see if an upgrade is warranted?

DAC8 DSD is a great DAC, but DAC200 is certainly notable improvement over it. But as usual, I would recommend to give it a listen, if you can get a loaner demo unit to compare!

Thanks, I need to do this.

New Holo Audio Cyan 2 now available to order!

Are you getting this @jussi_laako ?

Great deal! Looks amazing :star_struck:

According to Holo’s own specs, the DSD input has lower THD+N than Spring3

But lower output voltage also unfortunately

Yes, plan is to get one!

What is unfortunate about that? Curious.
