Best native DSD DACs for use with HQPlayer?

Crackle with DSD256? Or only DSD512?

Also are you plugged into USB 3.0 port or USB 2.0 port?

Some people have had issues with RPi4 USB 3.0 port - try USB 2.0 port (even though the problem is gone, curious if this helps)

This is excellent, from Japan. Certified and with ferrites

You might be able to find the same on Amazon in your country

Thanks for the tips.
Don’t know which port, need to check. Have not use DSD512 yet only DSD256, will try.

You have this, too. In 0,5m or 1 / 2m.

Or this :

Anything certified will do

But the one I linked has ferrites, which I like…

In Germany I could only find this:
ebay.de

Looks quite similar to the Japanes one, only in 1.6 m length. Unfortunately no info about certification. But waaay cheaper.

Do you know the exact term for the certification? So I could ask the seller.
Thx

Usually mentioned on packaging. From a quick google Here is StarTech

USB-IF certification

I wish all DAC manufacturers would use USB 3.0 female connectors! Even if 2.0 protocol spec. Flimsy/weak USB connections on multi-thousand dollar devices is a pet peeve of mine. eg. love my T+A Dac 200 but the USB ports are not great.

New certification and standards.

And the Oelhbach cable (above) is a USB 3.2 Gen 2 / 10Gb.

With Holo Cyan2 USB 3 is recommended only for its superior mechanical connection, not for any related to speeds etc

Yes, we agree. In fact, the USB 2 audio protocol is sufficient for 480 Mo/s.
On the other hand, what can be more, can be less… as with HDMI (I2S), the cables with the best certifications for the highest speeds are protected to the maximum against interference (EMI). I wonder if this USB3 isn’t ultimately superior to my audiophile USB2. :upside_down_face:
Let’s see if I switch back to USB… I’m on I2S on my Spring.

yes that would make sense

the cable I linked above with ferrites is probably good for EMI

Yes, and it makes sense too… it has ferrites because it needs them, where others can do without them because they are better protected… but also more expensive.

the only way to know which wins with best EMI rejection is to measure

Impossible for us to guess - could be one with ferrites , could be one without.

Look for generic USB3 SuperSpeed certified cables, with the official certification badge.

Actually not, only tiny fraction of the bandwidth can be used for USB Audio Class.

USB3.x has much tighter signal specs, and separated power feeds with higher current capacity.

P.S. My measurements are with USB3 SuperSpeed certified cable, except the latest Spring 3 ones are with Supra USB2 cable between UP Gateway NAA and Spring 3.

Compared to the table indicated previously,

if it’s a USB 3 cable superspeed 5 or 10 Gb/s, is it good too, even if there is no certification?
Who can do more, can do less… or not?
For example, this one : USB Evolution B3

Thanks, I order this one from Oehlbach:
Oehlbach
only in 50cm available, but that’s fine for me.
At this price point, I am pretty sure it is a rebranded standard chinese cable but at least I have a little bit of confidence that the cable can deliver the ā€œSuperSpeedā€ (even it is not needed here).
