Best places to buy digital music?

I am not a subscriber to Qobuz. But I do purchase downloads from them. And they offer both hi-res and CD quality downloads. I typically buy the CD quality (16/44.1) downloads.

I really like their CD quality selection. Oddball things are available and I always try and buy it if I want it since I never know when something might get yanked. I donā€™t see it happen often, but you never know.

Yes but the discounts in the Sublime subscription only apply to hi-res purchases.

I have been using HDTracks too, but I find that they really come up short on a lot of artists and albums.

If I would choose TIDAl. Can I then buy from Qobuz with a subscription?
And what happens with songs integrated from TIDAL/Qobuz in ROON after ending the subscription?

You can buy from Qobuz without a streaming subscription. They have a simple download shop.

With Qobuz nothing happens because you download the album files and import them into Roon. The downloaded files have nothing to do with Qobuz as such, they are as if you had ripped a CD or downloaded files from any other download shop.

I donā€™t know if Tidal has a similar download shop.

Sorrry. Was asking for those not bought. Just listed toā€¦

When subscription gone, you can no longer play those songs.

Do you seriously not understand the difference between streaming services and download stores? This is basic stuff.

Yes I understand!
My question was: what happens to playlists or in general where TIDAL or Qobuz files are marked.
Are they shown offline or deleted?
Not such a stupid question if you have more that 6.000 CDs ripped on ROON and what to expand to streaming services.

Well this was not part of your original question, and in the context of the other stuff about buying tracks it did look as if you were asking if you can keep streaming tracks after cancelling the subscription.

Now that we know the actual question: I think they show as Unavailable but stay in the Roon library. To be sure (if nobody else has a more definitive answer than I), you can verify by adding a streaming album to your Roon library and then log out of the streaming service in Roon.

I buy almost all classical, first from Qobuz because I have the higher subscription that makes high res often cheaper than cd quality; sometimes from Highresaudio, because of cheaper price especially with frequent discounts of a %; sometimes from Presto, with discounts. Occasionally a label is cheapest and I scored several lovely albums from Audite at attractive prices. Qobuzā€™s semi-annual sale is on now and a lot is marked down. This may or may not matter with high res items if you already have a subscription, but it can matter a lot with cd quality. Other labels go on sale at other times during the year. Single tracks, which you are looking for, often look rather expensive for not much time. eClassical sells by time, so if the album is shorter it can be cheaper than other places. If you are after super high quality Spirit of Turtle albums have great sound and art on sale a couple of times a year (not sure about right now). Donā€™t think they would sell single tracks.

Presto is normally a little cheaper than Qobuz (at least in the UK) so thatā€™s my first port of call for classical and jazz. Qobuz next, which of course covers pop/rock etc., with Highresaudio and a little NativeDSD (Mostly for 2xHD and Channel Classics recordings}. And the odd foray to Bandcamp, usually for Peter Gabriel - I like getting the FLAC bundled with a physical release.

Chandos.net and its Classical Shop for download have announced it will go out of business October 25th of this year:

It is a bit sad as they were one of the few classical download shops offering proper 5.1 surround FLACs (with exceptional sound quality, I might want to add).

Seemingly they offer some 50% discounts for downloads until the day the shop is closing for new offers. So at least there is a possibility to fill some gaps in the collection.

Wonder if the catalogue will be available elsewhere, like on presto, eclassical or highresaudio

I buy from (in order of preference):

Bandcamp (just donā€™t know what your getting in terms of format until after purchase)
Qobuz (w/ Sublime subscription)
ProStudioMasters
7Digital
HDTracks

Thatā€™s not the case anymore. Bandcamp now tells you the format.
