Nordost heimdall 2 ethernet cable!
With no reasonable evidence to suggest otherwise, I conclude that the measurements are reported correctly (same goes for 2020!).
Cognitive bias does indeed impact on almost every aspect of life.
One of the biggest weaknesses on the ASR forums is the confusion between cognitive bias and “delusion”. Far too many people have had their listening experiences invalidated by being told that they simply don’t hear what they claim to hear. The fact is that they do hear it. The interesting question, as far as I’m concerned, is why?
[Guess this is answered, but here it is]
I don’t see the ASR forum users as a mob, even if bullies exist. Amir himself writes
The Topping D90 produces lowest noise and distortion than 220 DACs tested so far. (…) Its measured performance is nearly flawless. ( Source )
It is what it is: A good measuring DAC. I think this issue is made more complicated than it is.
For what? The product info page talks about a few silly issues for an Ethernet cable, and may well make things worse due to poor shielding all for 700 notes. There’s a real possibility that cables costing 1% of this one will outperform it…
It’s not just me:

I actually agree with the comment about rational thinking being similar to a “religion” or “cult”, though. It has two of the essential characteristics. One is belief in an unsubstantiated axiom, that there is a single (though perhaps quite complicated) reality, and that the human psyche is capable of perceiving it without “too much” distortion. The other is that there is a settled and taught behavior that is practiced by the members of the group, the so-called “scientific method”, to avoid the “sin” of error.
So what? Again, not evidence of anything. More than one person believes the Earth is flat, after all.
The truth of a statement is neither proved (nor disproved) by an appeal to the popularity (or unpopularity) of the said statement.
While all of this is truly fascinating I am not really seeing any discussion relating to the thread topic anywhere.
You know , “Do router and Ethernet cables affect sound quality.”
A return to topic would be much appreciated!
Most advocates of rational thinking would not recognise this definition. It is profoundly irrational to believe that one’s methodology is without fault. Synthesis comes from thesis and anti-thesis (well, it does for Hegel).
Back on topic (as per @AceRimmer’s timely request!). It’s about time for me to check that my ethernet cable attached to my RPi is working as I don my headphones for an evening session. If the cable ain’t a-workin’, the music ain’t a playin’!
Also time to chill the beers! I shall adjourn to the “What are we listening to” thread.
And just because ASR has the word ‘Science’ in its name, doesn’t make Amir’s fidings and conclusions any more credible and authoritative than anyone else’s.
While some people just prefer minute-steak, meanwhile I’m vegetarian!
Well his measurements can be REPRODUCED. Maybe other than any subjective listening experience.
So what? Does that make it ‘science’?
And even if it does, what does that matter?
Finally. YES
I’ve just re-read @Martin_Kelly’s post. A minute steak is a cut. An Aberdeen Angus is a breed. You can have an Aberdeen Angus minute steak. In fact, thinking about, I’ve probably had an Aberdeen Angus minute steak!
I’m looking forward to the new McPlant myself!
On this, I shall definitely not comment!
