Do router and ethernet cables affect sound quality?

Cheers.
I’m fully accepting that this whole experience of mine is just a case of expectation bias.
BUT I’m happy! And that’s the only thing that matters :grinning:

Well, it must be ‘all in your head’ or your KDS ‘poorly designed.’ Because, you know, somebody on the internet who knows better says so…

It’s probably all in my head Charles?
But I’m happy with that. I’ll just stay deluded (?) AND happy

Give it a couple of days. Take it out again. See it that’s better too…

I doth my cap to you sir for trying and giving your opinion.

It’s very frustrating trying to tell people that I have experienced a difference in SQ and constantly being told its ■■■■■■■■

You know I was being sarcastic. I got seriously flamed on here awhile back for arguing the point that switches and ethernet cables make a difference. Sorry, not sure if that came through.

Oh yes…we’ll spotted :+1::blush:

I think the phrase is “well spotted”…

I am shocked you took the “plunge”! As they say, “… good things happen to those who dare”! Enjoy. Don’t worry about the fallout

Maybe you need a more expensive keyboard cable.

I visited site and they pinpoint on electrical noise and jitter reduction as the main goals achieved by their switch.

Quite apart from what’s inside, it’s beautifully made, in a cast (?) aluminium case. It has heft, for such a small bit of kit.

I think It’s very good value at £450.

I got a significant improvement in timing, detail, soundstage snd instrumental texture from an EtherRegen, which was in its turn substantially improved by powering it from a high quality linear power supply, in my case a custom version of the Sean Jacobs (Custom Hifi Cables) DC3.

Hi Mike,

I’m thinking of trying one of these downstream of my Sotm shh-10g. Silly question, is the only way of turning the EtherREGEN off is at the wall?

I like to power down when not in use and getting to my wall sockets isnt easy. I wouldn’t want this thing sitting red hot 24/7

Cheers

You could just pull the dc cable out of it. I don’t have one (though I do have similar devices from Uptone and Sonore), but I would assume it would run the hottest only when actually streaming. Keep in mind these are low voltage devices so even though they run hot, it’s not the same type of draw and potential danger as a Type A amp or a tube device.

Hi Bill,

Yeah they do run hot and at pretty much the same heat irrespective of the number of connections and whether active or idling. I leave mine on (and indeed the whole system) all the time. Apart from anything else, it means I don’t have to wait for the internal clock to warm up and stabilise.

As Charles says, the easiest way to power down without getting to your wall socket would be to unplug the DC inlet, although that would obviously still leave the switched-mode power supply powered up.

FWIW the Sean Jacobs linear power supply does have it’s own on/off switch.

Cool…thanks for the update

I work with a semiconductor company and help companies design Ethernet switches.

Audiophile switches are complete and utter BS - if you want to understand a bit about how switches work, do some research. Look into store and forward. It’s the most cynical bull I’ve come across to date and I’m a 53 year old who has loved audio since the age of about 14.

They are using the same silicon as any other commercial manufacturer. Tests have been conducted by others (you don’t need me to point you there) I wonder why they delete the part number and manufacturer details from the switch chips??

I dropped patronage for a Youtube channel because he was extolling the benefits of this junk.

Same as $10k directional audiophile Ethernet cables…FFS!

They may say that the clock has been blessed by the gods on high, bathed in holy water and pissed on by a holy goat, but it is complete and utter horse manure. Please don’t talk about jitter.

Invest in other parts of your system.

This stuff makes me very, very angry.
