Well I am surprised as it seems local files are handled differently fromTidal. See this post from Brian in another thread.

This is especially beneficial if one has a slow network devices, i.e. like portable wireless hard disk on the go. Memory playback is found in JRiver and can be enabled as an option.

Seems that if you compared playback of a flac file of the same resolution on your NAS with the same track from Tidal you could see if there is any benefit in memory playback or not.
