Grateful Dead Bootlegs - Identifying in Roon

I ended up deciding that it worked better for me NOT to have my Dead collection identified in Roon. Like most of the heads on here…we think in terms of “shows” rather than albums. But sometimes those shows can be from a true album release (Dave’s, Dick’s)…but it could also be an audience taper bootleg, a 3 or 4 song snip from what you recorded on the Grateful Dead Hour radio show (lol…i’ve got a fair amount of stuff like that).

By keeping these unidentified, I use the tags to make the album name the show date / location. And if you use the date first in a YYYY-MM-DD format…then you can always have the ‘albums’ sorted by title…and you end with a tidy collection of every show you have in order. It works for me.

I also for a composer credit in my file tags and that allows Roon to recognize songs as the same and create a composition count for me….like this:

Won’t be what everyone is after…but it has allowed me to really manage my sprawling collection of live Dead…and now I can listen to it anywhere with ARC! Roon has been a great solution for me.
