Great Cans. For added comfort, try installing a ZMF co-pilot headband.

Thanks! I might give them a try although I don’t find the stock headband uncomfortable.

ZMFs and DCAs pair well with the co-pilot headband. Best DCA pairing was on the E2. Really improved comfort for me.

Yes somebody mentioned that previously in this forum.
Was probably you.
I looked at it back then.
It does indeed look super comfy. :+1:

Sweet. How does that Abyss feel comfort wise? Heavy?

That is a great collection. Which amp(s) do you use?

And who’s the winner…

surprisingly, the abyss does not feel heavy at all… I have it set up as suggested by the manufacturer ie as lightly seated on the head as possible, and it is actually quite nice not having the pads pressed up against the head/side of face.

Using an apollon stereo 1et400a purifi power amp with the more power hungry headphones, and woo audio 33 and Wells audio mill reference with my other headphones.

for me… is the Utopia. Susvara comes a close second.

Nice set of cans…looking to buy an additional pair to complement my old HD800 this coming year and have shortlisted Utopia, Empyrean, ZMF verite closed and/or Open, LCD 4 for now.

Love the HD800 for its open and detailed resolution, soundstage and the space of presentation they present.

But…I would as a complement look for a HP that would add some more bottom end and maybe more ā€œacustic massā€ā€¦(now I sound like Darko) and to perhaps tame the treble a bit which can be a bit sibilant on some less than good mastering recording especially 60’s music…

Which one would fit the bill?

Using Chord Hugo 2 for my listening

Empyrean
My recommendation

On my shortlist, will add the Susvara as well for a thorough listening session.

I wouldn’t say the Utopia is the ā€œacoustic massyā€ type, but they do deliver dynamics. I recently sold my Hifiman HE1Ks and my Utopias, settling for other cans in my collection, such as HD-800S and Foster TH-900 as well as Hifiman Edt X v2 and others.
However, my Utopias worked splendid with my then Chord Hugo and TT.

I had the VC and have the VO, and would still choose the Utopia/Stellia. Maybe I just prefer the focal sound. Had the empyrean but sold it after a few months as it didn’t get much play time… It is super comfortable but the sound just wasn’t engaging enough for me. It is quite the opposite sound from the hd800 though, if that’s what you’re looking for.

I’d recommend the susvara, but be prepared to spend some decent money on amplification too.

Initially I thought you placed them by preference, from abyss to Sennheiser. Great collection. I’d like to try the Susvara one day with a proper amp.

Seems Utopia is in the lead…

Would the third from the left please step forward and turn to the right. Thank you.

Since you are playing in the big leagues as far as cost is concerned I would highly recommend giving the Sonoma Model One electrostatic headphone system a serious listen. I know that it’s a two piece system - headphones and a dedicated amp/DAC but of all the headphones I’ve listened to and have owned the Model One has the best sounding bass and by a fairly wide margin. Pure, clean and deep bass with no distortion.

Have not heard of them but will do some research and put on the ā€œshortā€ list…thx
