Beside Focal Elegia, Dan Clark ether flowC, Stax 404 mkII and a Meze RainPenta IEM, I‘m using a Twin Pulse Ragnarr model which is -amongst the other mentioned HPs- by far a class of it’s own.
It offers a bit more bass as the standard Twin Pulse, a wide soundstage with wonderful resolution of every single instrument and it expresses voices in a magnificent way, which sounds very natural to my ears.
Before I purchased it, I liked it to hear some genres with the Focal (mainly hard‘n‘heavy-Stuff, Rock/Electro-Pop) other with the ether flowC (Jazz, Acoustic folk etc.) and Classical music with my stax.
To my own surprise I am using -slightly eq’ed- my twin pulse everyday, for every genre. It’s simply the best sounding headphones in my small collection.
Of course it’s only my personal taste how music should sound, but I am quite a bit addicted to the sound experience which I have undergone every single time when I listened with the Twin Pulse.
My little stand up for the Twin Pulse is sounding -also to my ears- somewhat exuberant, but this is my personal & honest opinion —> I didn‘t get paid by Spirit Torino!
Cheers
Michael
My Twin Pulse sound like the Ragnarr, same drivers, same fixed cable, everything the same, apart from the color and the engraving.
Same for the Radiante, same spec as the Ragnarr version, but in the Torino 1806 colors.
I like that you can customize your headphones a lot.
@Jazzfan_NJ: As amplifier, I’m using an Audio GD R27. You can drive them with a Chord Mojo as well (more the Radiante than the Twin Pulse), but you clearly lack something.
I’m not a valve guy, nor do I bother too much about aesthetics, but that’s pretty no matter what it sounds like. More than ready to believe it sounds as good as it looks
I love showing off my DIY kit internals…but sometimes the issues with clear acrylic panels doesn’t bode well with keeping nasty EMI/RFI out of the gear. Granted many tube amps have things sticking out the top anyway, preamps are more subject to noise than amps.
I have a friend with that amp too I think. Same clear top.

Imac 27 inch for HQplayer heavy lifting (with fan turned off)
Roon remote app for Apple tv for control
How do you like these rather large headphones? I tried them at a headphone show and while the sound was truly something special, I found the size and weight to be bit off putting.
They work for me! As you say, the weight is perhaps a bit much, but I find the sq truly fantastic. And with kids around the house, the listening sessions never get so long for me that it’s really an issue. The synergy with the tube amp, the dac and streamer really create a incredible and effortless sounding system.
One and half months into 2022 so it must be time to add another set of headphones to my collection. And this before I attend the big headphone show CanJam NYC next weekend, when I might come home with show special or two.
This time around I found a great deal on lightly used Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless Copper. Very nice Bluetooth or wired with Beyerdynamic’s Tesla drivers. These headphones do not have any noise cancellation but they are closed back. The sound is very similar to the several other Beyerdynamic over ear headphones that incorporate the Tesla drivers. Plus they are very comfortable with memory foam velour ear pads and headband padding. I also found a convolution filter for use in Roon. There is an app (iOS and android) which applies custom equalization based a hearing test when used via Bluetooth.
Just in, listening for the first time: Stax SR-Lambda Pro with SRM-1 Mk.2 Pro, both pretty much like new despite being almost 30 years old (purchased originally in 1994). Using oratory1990’s PEQ settings for the Stax ED-1.
I picked up a similar setup this past summer, SR-404 Signature with SRM-T1 Amplifier. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. They sound nothing like my other setups.
So far I’m enjoying them, yes! Knew the Stax sound a bit already, as I was using my dad’s old SR-X Mk.3 with the SRD-7 SB. But the Lambdas are another level, and also much more comfortable!
I’m also listening with a Meze Empyrean, so the strengths of the two sets lie in very different areas, and complement each other well
