I got a new toy amp that has Dirac built in and I had to turn off the NUC and the HDD as the mic was clearly picking them up… it’s that decrepit ![]()
My issue was Windows updates combined with Roon updates and dealing with my gf every month asking, Roons down when one or the other updated. With the Nucleus no more Windows update and I can update from only my phone. The $500 price point totally worth it. But…tbh my gf has just started using the Tidal app vs Roon when driving to and from work.
It looks like you can get a nice discount on either Nucleus in the next few days should you wish to get one.
Only if you are a new or lapsed user , which is often the case with such offers
Us regulars get nothing , except Roon of course
10% on a Nucleus… it’s still a lot of money for a Titan and the One doesn’t seem all that attractive… I feel there’s a gap there to be filled between the two models.
I am reading it as the Nucleus offer being available to everyone.
I am more than happy with my 200 Euro NUC. ![]()
It looks like a bit of both, the cheap sub for new/lapsed , 10% hardware for all
The devil s in the small print
Me too my NUC is 3 yrs old so running well
Well, I just happened upon a second hand Simply Nuc Porcoolpine 8th gen i7, 16gb, 500GB m2 SSD . Even if it doesn’t work well at all, it will be a cool paperweight!
A few weeks ago, I took the leap from running Roon on a Macintosh with M1 processor to using a Roon Nucleus One to run Roon. I am so pleased with the way the Nucleus performs, and allows me to free up my Macintosh such that when a reboot is necessary, the music doesn’t stop! Additionally, there have been numerous Macintosh OS updates that have required me to open System Settings to reset Privacy and Security Settings > Local Network > Roon, by toggling it off and then back on. This usually requires a reboot to take effect, and has been an annoyance to me for several years. Freedom is mine with the Roon Nucleus One!
you know what?? Now I want that tshirt! In blue!
I did google it right away. They only have it in black and XS size. Pretty cool shirts though!
After dealing with repeated audio headaches using my MacBook Air as a playback machine, I’ve come to really appreciate what a dedicated Roon Core brings to the table. With the Mac, I’ve had countless situations where CoreAudio gets stuck or unresponsive, forcing me to reset audio services, reboot the machine, or open Audio MIDI Setup just to fix sample-rate and bit-depth mismatches. I’ve experienced CoreAudio silently changing MIDI settings, the DAC ending up in an unusable state, random output switching (DAC → speakers → HDMI), Roon or other players losing the device entirely, and system sounds mixing into music playback. On top of that, when I’m away from home, Roon ARC often doesn’t work when the MacBook Air is acting as Core—either because the laptop went to sleep, lost network connectivity, or seemingly because a fly landed on it. In contrast, Nucleus One provides a bit-perfect, exclusive audio path that bypasses the operating system mixer and its quirks, delivering a stable, low-jitter stream straight to the DAC. The result is not only fewer technical problems, but also cleaner transients, more precise imaging, and better low-level detail—essentially less “computer sound” and more of what’s actually in the recording. For me, moving the audio brain away from a general-purpose laptop and into a dedicated Roon Core has been as much a reliability upgrade as a sonic one.
Ummm, this is a bit over-the-top! I replaced a Mac Mini with a Nucleus One for appliance-level simplicity but never had any of the issues you suggest you have with my Mac (yes, of course you have to turn off sleep mode to keep your MacBook Air running and running Roon/ARC).
The sound quality claims don’t really scan, I’m afraid. If you get bit perfect from the devices your DAC can’t distinguish one source from the other (except in rare, blah blah, circumstances like crappy DACs that are direct-connected).
But, to remain positive, it’s great you are happy with your new setup!
I have the meerkat one as well, I pick them up in the Park Shops in the Kruger Park when we go on holiday. They have a lot of wildlife oriented stuff.
