HQPlayer Embedded Discussion

So…if I’m upsampling to DSD, using the Spring…should I have adaptive rates checked or greyed out? Is one better then the other?

Thanks again

Also, if I used this on my laptop…that only has Wifi…is there a setting I would need to change to get that working?

Thanks

I use auto rate for my Holo DACs. My May settings (HQPlayer 5):

My settings (“Auto Rate Family” enabled on top and “48k DSD” support at bottom ) enabled.

Holo Spring 3.

Dac bits should be 20 also:

Is it the first generation Spring or Spring 2 or Spring 3? Checked gives you lowest CPU load, since Spring 2 and Spring 3 support DSD also at multiples of 48k. The first generation Spring doesn’t, so it should have the setting unchecked (blank).

I tried to explain this in the manual, but the logic is following:
Unchecked : output rate request is explicit and will be used or the playback won’t start
Greyed : try to use the output rate request if allowed by the selected filter, if not fall back to compatible rate
Checked : Always use output rate that is simple multiple of the source rate

How about Qobuz with HQPlayer Client? There you have some options about the buffering strategy (prefetch and freewheel).

Thanks…I understand better now. I have Spring 3 KTE.

@jussi_laako Please am having issues installing hqplayer 4.35 on Ubuntu 22.0.4 due to Package libgupnp-av-1.0-2 is unavailable anymore and it didn’t work if upgrade it to Package libgupnp-av-1.0-3
Any ideas?

error msg:

Are you trying to install correct package? IOW, jammy package? Sounds like you are trying to install bullseye package.

@jussi_laako
Please I’ve installed jammy package , but unable to login on the web console.
How do I reset the username and password?

Ubuntu 22 is Jammy Jellyfish, not Bullseye

So I can install this on Unbuntu desktop version version instead of booting from USB right?

Second question if same computer only different is that is booting from a USB drive, fingerprint should be the same?

Thank you and I’ve got it working.

Yes. Should be same fingerprint, for Embedded on Ubuntu and HQP OS on USB stick

Yes, should be same fingerprint

Sometimes networking driver/adapter causes something funky to change fingerprint. If this happens, toggle WiFi on and off to see if fingerprint changes to match your HQP OS.

There is no default password. So you need to set one (this is mentioned on my install instructions web page too). You can set the username and password with:
sudo hqplayerd -s username password
Then restart hqplayerd service with:
sudo systemctl restart hqplayerd

Testing again HQP embedded under Ubuntu Server 22.04 and my problem is, that I’ve some hundreds files with DSD128/DSD256/DSD512.
With this sources, I’ll get dropouts using modulators like ASMxEXy (also with the light versions) in upscaling to DSD512.
Hardware: 16x 11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i9-11900 @ 2.50GHz (runs up to 5 GHz) and while using HQP two cores are using 50 - 80% (never 100%).

With other sources (PCM or DSD64) I’ll never have dropouts also in uzsing ASDM7EC-super 512+fs.

So, what can I do?

Still get dropouts with ‘Direct SDM’ enabled?

Are you doing matrix process / EQ / convolution to your DSD sources ?

Not using any EQ/matrix process or convolution.
With Dircet SMD I get (surely) no dropouts.

Yes but that wasn’t clear before.

Direct SDM plays for me without EQ - but not with EQ.

You could try different Integrator and Conversion settings.

For example IIR2 vs FIR2 integrator. And XFi vs narrow/wide conversion.

The base modulator is not an issue, since PCM and DSD64 sources work. So it is up to the two above settings.

I assume you are using the AVX2 build of HQPlayer? You could try both builds, for the sake of trying. Since your CPU supports AVX-512 as well.

Also try with both Multicore DSP auto (greyed) and enabled (checked).
