I am interested in this. Will Roon allow the ability to control Apple Music??
No it won’t. You may be able to feed the output from a Mac desktop to it but it won’t control it.
Is this Roon’s attempt of getting all the music services available to work through Roon ?
Roon Relay is very intriguing.
No it will allow you to route audio to it from another source. What that is yet is unknown. But I imagine it’s something like what you can already do with Sonos, Blusound and Wiim. Think of it as a preamp into Roon to send on to Roons zones . It won’t control anything to do with these sources to allow integration.
You could use the Apple Remote to do that.
To do what?
To control the music playing from your Mac that is relayed to Roon
I sit next to my turntable but would love to use OPRA with my Headphone setup. also walking 5 meters from my bedroom setup to the living room wouldn’t be a big issue especially with auto tonearm lift
When is Roon Relay going to be implemented?
No one knows as no more details have been given yet.
Any idea when this new feature is being announced?
It was announced before Christmas to the community as this thread was started by Roon staff, They said more info at CES, which is all this week.
Its the more information im referring to. Do we know? Or just this week?
Whatever it is it will make all your dreams come true
I regularly play CD’s and cassette tapes, many of which must be more than 40 years old now. Vinyl long gone. I am using a Primare SC15Mk2 for room correction and PEQ because that has an analogue input for the cassette deck. Problem is that whilst the PEQ for roon and the CD player are matched I prefer something different for the cassette deck so I am manually dialling in different pre-sets depending on which source I am playing. If roon relay can switch PEQ depending on source that’s a use case right there. But of course it depends on what roon relay actually is?
I’m sure Roon labs will let everyone know, they’re not going to announce something then keep the detail a secret.
Remember it was months between the announcement of the nucleus one and it’s availability world wide, so expect to see something tangible around March or April.
As I said it’s all in the opening post. Read and it says what we all know at this time and says
Stay tuned for more Roon Ready Relay device news, coming soon at CES 2025. As always, we thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm and for being part of the Roon community!
Happy New Year everyone!
In case you missed @Geoff_Coupe’s post above, Victrola announced a new range of turntables at CES 2025 that use Roon Ready Relay tech to unlock exciting new possibilities for enjoying vinyl with Roon.
As promised, Relay breaks down the barriers between traditional audio equipment and modern streaming. Now, vinyl’s listening rituals can be combined with Roon’s multifaceted audio and music features. For the last few months, I’ve been fully immersed in the sonic wonderland Roon Ready Relay has gifted my favorite LPs—and it’s absolutely amazing!
As always, we appreciate your continued support and enthusiasm for Roon. We’ll have more Victrola and Roon Ready Relay details for you soon. Please stay tuned!
Happy new year Jamie!
I sure hope that there will be more serious devices available soon to allow a “Roon input-option”?
While the Victrola may be some peoples choice, to me and many others it’s like claiming the cars on The Black Keys album cover of El Camino to represent the peak of American automotive industry…
Good catch, @Geoff_Coupe, you spotted the first adoption of Roon Ready Relay.
It’ll be interesting to see what other manufacturers adopt this tech. One would hope that Roon’s parent company Harman would ask its appropriate brands (AKG, AMX, Arcam, Bang & Olufsen Automotive, Becker, BSS Audio, Crown, dbx, Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL, Lexicon, Mark Levinson, Martin, Revel, and Soundcraft) to participate.
