Yes I know, I am trying to give ARC another chance.
This is how it repays me

Not if you bought one in the ‘80’s
Mind you the tapes are very expensive , even an RTM pancake is touching £50 and the new music tapes are £400-700

Hey @Simon_Arnold3 this isn’t Metal (not even baby metal) but it actually is quite appealing and enjoyable.
(Well Maybe Avril Lavigne levels of Metal , which I also quite enjoyed)

It’s keeping the beast fed I was referring to. I think you can buy rebuilt and tweaked decks in the $3K range (not a pittance, but not out of reach for most enthusiasts) can you not? But, the media prices. woof

Something I would like to have, as opposed to vinyl, it’s just not practical for me.

That said…so friggen cool.

It better than I remember some good stuff on it, the poor sq aside, but it’s not as good as their first two by a long shot for me.

Doing a personal comparison between two versions of Michael Jackson’s Bad.

I have, and have had, the 25th anniversary edition of the CD. Then I saw a video recently where Michael Fremer testified in a deposition a few years ago in a case between Quincy Jones, and the MJ estate. Fremer articulated, quite well, how the 25th Anniversary Edition has been crushed with compression, and loudness increased, and how it sounds so much worse than the original 1987 CD.

I ordered the 1987 CD on Discogs and it arrived today. I’ve just finished ripping it. Here are both versions of Bad in Audacity.

The top waveform is the 25th Anniversary Edition, and the bottom waveform is the original 1987 version. I can clearly see the loudness and compression difference in them.

After listening, I can very distinctly hear the difference, and the original sounds so much better and with better dynamic range, too. The 25th Anniversary Edition is a bit ear fatiguing to me as well.

Thankfully I only have the original CD from the week of release

I’ve noticed that the Dynamic Range of CD’s scanned into Roon varies considerably.

Most classical releases tend to have a DR of around 18. Rock & Pop releases tend to average around 8. A big difference.

I only have the L.P. from then.
