Let's talk about what's Moving and Grooving you today! [2023-09]

When they put me on oxygen it was such a relief.

I shamefully remember downloading this album from a ‘peer to peer’ server. It was during the dial up days, where you couldn’t use your house phone at the same time. For some reason I remember it was a Sunday, it took around 8 hours to download the mp3 version of the album.
I did purchase an official CD a few years later.

You seem to be on an ornithological run the last day or so.

I bought the rights to download an album and play it at home. Every time you played the album a connection was made to a server from the company you bought the rights. Luckily I burned CD’s from my purchases, because they went bankrupt within a year…

The first time I started using the internet was Nov 94, dial up dos dialer, and having to use ‘get’ for downloads. All the telnet/Archie/usenet/ftp.
I spoke to HSBC back in the day and asked them if they were going to do on line banking and they said yes they were trialing it. They sent some 3.5’" floppies with the software and I had to dial into the bank. Interesting times.

fun! I started with IBM OS2 to get connected, had to dial a number in Denmark from the Netherlands… Anyway long story short: seen all the internet grow into what we see today… should have kept all the modems… and software boxes…

Back in 91 I had an ISDN line installed for work, 2 x 64KB bonded links and we could use the house phone at the same time.

Until we got real ADSL years later it was amazing.
I may or may not have used a lot of an app called Napster for a while before I stopped downloading music and went legit.

I blame the record companies for not doing anything to allow high quality digital downloads at the time

Had to order this from Japan back in the day.
The date Roon shows is wrong.

I seem to recall that WinMX was my favoured weapon of choice.

I used a Nokia 6230 as a modem for a year. Extremely slow, but I vaguely recall O2 at the time hadn’t cottoned onto that you could do this and I had unlimited data, albeit only at GPRS dial-up speeds.

Not had much luck there. Look after yourself and keep cycling.

Yes, black gloss. Not something you want to carry from your car too often. :muscle:

Agreed. Some people say that alcohol helps kill off the bugs in your gut, but, maybe mixed with antibiotics, your walking trip may be a little bit ‘experimental.’ Either way, take it easy. :vulcan_salute:
