Wow John no one else besides me ever posts Tom McRae

That is probably my favourite dark and depressing albums :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: (along with it’s evern darker follow up)

First spin for me and it was definitely dark, in a good way. Enjoyed it.

Will have to check out his follow up as you suggested. Thanks.

Toronto’s The Shadow Majlis presents his debut album “The Departure” fusing elements of eastern modes with post-punk. Revolving around Ali Jafri (known as a member of David J’s live band, Pigface and various other projects), this record was produced and mixed by David Bottrill (Peter Gabriel, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Tool, David Sylvian, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, Real World Studios).

Also on board are David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets) and drummer-percussionist Rakesh Tewari (Jaffa Road, The Special Interest Group) next to Dakhabrakha’s Olena Tsybulska, Mark Gemini Thwaite (The Mission, Peter Murphy, MGT, Tricky), Anne Bourne (Loreena McKennitt, Jane Siberry), Tuvan throat singer Soriah and more.

This release marks the 2-year birthday of Jafri’s son Oisín, who passed away in September 2022 after battling a highly aggressive form of brain cancer. The recording helped Jafri work through grief over this and the dissolution of his conjugal relationship.

Glad to hear that :+1:
He is back out on tour again this year, and I haven’t seen him since before lock down so looking forward to it.

Just like Blood is even darker at least in my mind, but I always find them both a great listen, especially in the quiet times.
All maps welcome is a little lighter

You’ve fallen for a good salesman, a good brush is enough!
Just think about the size of the needle, you can try it with a duster…

Be careful if it’s sticky. You don’t want to damage it.

Be very careful using it. It puts a force opposite to what the cantilever is designed for when lifting from the gel. A few people have damaged their stylus/cantilever when lifting from gel. I prefer to use brush and my AT.

Slightly eclectic, but that’s like my taste in music :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Just get a magic eraser. Cut a small chunk off. Put it on the platter drop the arm leave for a few secs, lift. Job done. Learned this one from Vinyl Engine and Steve Hoffman forums. Works a treat, just dont move it whilst doing it.
