Metadata for Jazz gets worse and worse

For me, digging around the Web for the details and annotating the metadata is part of the job of curating my library of music (about 18k songs). It will never be complete, but there I a lot of fun to be had and new discoveries to make in the process. I’d rather have no metadata than bad metadata!

I don’t want to do this again just for my own. As one can see, even putting it into file tags is not the best solution. As well I have two friends here also using Roon and they have several albums in their library which I have too. It makes no sense to add data three times, everybody for his own.

I was looking for some new albums in Roon with mostly lacking metadata, they are not listed in Musicbrainz and Allmusic. So it seems the lousy metadata is coming from Qobuz.

Can anybody tell that this is better with Tidal?

If you want to make the world a better place, do your edits in MusicBrainz not Roon. Especially adding new albums and albumid’s is a real service to the community - I think I probably add a half dozen every year. The interface is not great, but over time once the big lift of adding the album is done you’ll see additional information being added. Ive found ways to make the lift smaller by adding / copying from Amazon, Qobuz etc. my additions don’t have all the details at first on a track by track level, but given some time sometime else always seems to pitch in to improve them.

I sure do wish I could contribute directly to muiscbrainz from within Roon, but we haven’t gotten there yet.

@moderators this isn’t a support issue, perhaps move to roon discussion, feedback?

Thank you for that info. I thought, I can only edit existing albums in MusicBrainz. I can look further now :slightly_smiling_face:

Sorry for one more question: If I add the musicians of an album in MusicBrainz, will those then correspodent with the existing musicians already known in Roon?

So long as you are adding a known musician in Musicbrainz, then yes the artists will “connect”. I find it non-intuitive to add multiple artists and credits per track, so I generally do not.

Also, a warning - I wish this was immediate gratification, but it’s not. You make your edits and then wait for them to flow through to Roon. The only difference seems to be new albums which mostly appear almost instantly.

Thanks for contributing!

It’s great when Roon users contribute to MusicBrainz. I would request that anyone doing so reads the official MusicBrainz style guidelines beforehand, to avoid moderation pain (and to get the best results in Roon).
