MQA disappointing

You hardly ever “just mention” MQA. In many hundreds of posts (so far 357 on this thread alone) you keep glorifying MQA in a way that many other users obviously find too extreme – even people who explicitly say they like how MQA can sound (including sound engineers who actually work with it). MQA is neither the holy grail (pro-MQA camp) nor the end of the world (anti-MQA camp). Like most other things in life, it has both advantages and disadvantages.

Anyone who isn’t willing to admit this can’t be taken seriously. They may not be insulting our mothers, but they ARE insulting our intelligence.

I’m flattered you are counting my mentions in a thread (see how I didn’t use three letters there lol)
This thread is about those letters and so are not pertinent to my comment. But should I have the temerity to mention a recording is available with that particular format in a music thread, the hostility begins.
There was one moderated only yesterday (thank you mods) when I expresses surprise, real surprise, that ‘Puff (The Magic Dragon)’ by Peter Paul and Mary, was in this Format.

That was wholly appropriate to the thread along with my other comment on surprise they had so many albums at all, and many now were in this advanced format.

Anti MQA people really do need to calm down a little, understand that various formats exist (Good, Bad or indifferent), are relevant (even if people want to avoid them) and can be mentioned as a part of the ongoing discussions.

I didn’t count them. They just showed up when I clicked on your avatar.

The main reason why some people here “get jumped on” is because they never really reply to the posts they pretend to be replying to.

I agree, but no anti-MQA campaigners have participated in this discussion lately…

The campaign started over at CA, cabal like. It spread. This is what’s left. Members of the anti-MQA gang and their buddies almost take it in turns to have a pop. Some genuine people also get involved.

It’s bullying behaviour.

Who are you talking about? @Jim_F, @Alan, @Volker, @Axel.S, @Steve.F.H.Crosby, @Wolf, @HoRoJa, @robbi_burdeck, myself and most other people who’ve actively participated in this discussion over the past 10 days or so, have all explicitly said they LIKE how MQA can sound! Accusing us of anti-MQA bias is just absurd.

This is exactly the kind of reply that makes other users “jump on you” (your choice of words!). All it does is add fuel to the fire.

So, jumping on me is OK? At least I’m interesting enough I suppose. :joy:

Not really absurd when you look at other treads and that the MQA Music listening thread is an almost hidden sub section, and not in Music section where it belongs.
A ‘What DSD are you listening to’ thread would be welcome also.

Better still, we could just let people mention any music format they like in the listening thread and get over it. In the end, it’s all music.

Chris, I wasn’t talking about any other threads or the moderators etc. in the post you replied to. I was talking about this thread and the people taking part in this discussion. I even mentioned the names of the people I was talking about to make it absolutely impossible for you or other users to “misunderstand” me.

No, they are on another one (lots of which has been deleted since). Also it’s rarely much of a discussion. Everything has already been said, many times over.

Yes, and some people keep repeating that other people keep repeating themselves…

How many other threads are there in which three sound engineers are talking about their practical experiences with MQA in the studio?

No idea, why is that relevant to repetition?

Some things are worth repeating.

I am not going to express what I think of MQA.

However, and no sarcasm meant at all, I have really enjoyed reading this thread. It has amused me, interested to know there are professionals on here.

Thank you for being involved in this discussion. It’s given me pleasure and thinking material and amusement too.

kind regards

exactly what I do. I have bought HR and MQA versions of CDs I own or then buy. I feel safer with the physical disc.

Then there’s the group who doesn’t care how it sounds, but knows it is bad because of the proprietary lock-in and effective DRM. Don’t put money in the pockets of people pushing these schemes.

I think I know why you aren’t…

Out of curiosity, how different is this to Dolby A/B for tape recordings (in a previous lifetime)? Was that “DRM”? I don’t remember a hoo-ha at the time.
