Not to open another discussion, but WiFi is always a bit of an unknown due to spectrum utilization (what are the neighbors up to?), and then there’s the problem that’s it’s always simplex. IOW, use a cable if you can, if not and it’s working great, fantastic! If wireless and it’s dropping out from time to time, try a cable to see if that fixes it.
I would always hard wire if I could, but when I get zero WiFi issues I have no need to.
It was the statement that “WiFi is always going to be problematic” that is just not correct.
Correction: WiFi can often be problematic, post above edited.
Thanks to all who commented. I didn’t mean to derail this thread about the highs and lows of WiFi (BTW, mine is hardwired from my router to my Roon Server and wireless thereafter). I was asking if swapping my NUC for the Nucleus One might eliminate some of my tech issues.
I will try using Roon with an ethernet from my router to my Chord Mojo2 (bypassing the Chord Poly) to see if isolating it points to my router/setup.
I’ll also reach out to Roon to confirm if I can buy the Nucleus One with the caveat of returning it within the 30 days if it doesn’t improve my setup. However, I really want to be able to go wireless with the Mojo2/Poly both at home via WiFi and on the go quirk Roon ARC using cellular.
@Grasshopper, I’d like to DM you regarding your setup and mine (as a fellow Chord Mojo2/Poly/Roon user). I’m unable to DM you via Roon Labs Community. Can you email me at [moderated: private email address removed]
@David_Weinberg - I’ve removed your private email address - it’s really not a good idea to post these on a public forum; they are likely to be harvested by spambots.
Are you sure that you can’t DM @Grasshopper? You are listed as a member (trust level 2), so you should be able to use this facility.
Geoff,
@Grasshopper’s profile is listed as "This user’s public profile is hidden” and therefore no link to DM. That is why I took a limited time gamble on listing my email. Maybe Grasshopper can consider changing his/her profile.
Right so you have to hope that @Grasshopper will take up contact with you via DM…
Yes, correct.
Hello @Grasshopper
My Intel i5 Nuc lives upstairs in my bedroom.
Everything in is ethernet wired incl my streamer which has no wifi option.
ROON seems to run fine from my Nas(Asustor) or from Qobuz.
But which Celeron?
No info about type found, seems to be an industrial board🤨
This would be a bit better than the Nucleus CPU in single thread speed, then:
(Nucleus Plus rev. B CPU for comparison).
And better than the Nucleus CPUs and comparable to the N+ CPU in every other aspect:
Multi-core overall rating (relevant for Roon search):
I hope this settles it.
And a smart choice for Roon Labs, I guess:
The Intel Celeron N5105 is a quad-core SoC from the Jasper Lake series, which is primarily intended for low-cost desktops and was announced in early 2021. The four Tremont CPU cores clock between 2 and 2.9 GHz (single-core burst) and do not offer HyperThreading (SMT).
11th Generation Intel N5105 processor (4C/4T, 4M Cache, Turbo up to 2.9GHz).
If this is the case, then the OP’s i57260U has better single thread performance (1976 rating).
Out of curiosity, I also checked my Salkstream (i5 4570T) since I’ve considered the Nucleus One as a replacement. However, I see mine also has a higher single thread performance score (1908), indicating a Nucleus One may be a step down in performance for me (important for my use case of multichannel DSD + some DSP).
Right, I didn’t check back with the OP, my comment about settling was regarding the old vs new Nucleus debate generally.
Adding the i5-7260U for convenience:
Pretty mediocre performance for that price when you can get simple n100 with roughly the same performance and those can be picked up for £150 or even less ready built.
The N100 has a very low base clock speed, though, and a very big jump in turbo mode. I’m not sure how well it would do in sustained performance.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that the people who wrote the code have a pretty good idea of what they need from a CPU platform.
I’m sure economics come into it more in the boardroom.Time will tell though.
