Raducanu. tennis

Still not dropped a set :open_mouth:

Emma is the youngest British woman to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam since Sue Barker did in 1975.

The way she is going she could win the open, would be amazing if she did.

@RodS sorry I wasn’t there for you today man
I had a 4 hour drive home and that girl was in way to much of a hurry to wait for me

Great to see the progress and the other youngsters coming through in this tournament

N.p.Worth watching the replay if you get a chance.

Not long got home, but I will watch it on the iPad

Raducanu :uk: & Fernandez :canada: have been inspiring this US Open.

Match is due to start about 1.15am Friday morning which is a bit of a bummer .
Still going to watch it but will be a bit tired at work I guess, If it is a 2 setter it will still be 3.00am ish finish.

I read earlier on the BBC that it is expected to actually start at around 2:00 AM (unless that has changed).
So a bit late to me, maybe watch it in work tomorrow or when I get home

Fernandez was getting slaughtered on service return in 1st set but has just made a bit of a comeback.
Radacanu plays on same court after this match.
Looks like about 1.30 start at least.

Fernandez has levelled back up 5/5,great come back.
Sabalenka has been hitting hard serves, up to 120mph
Fernandez brilliant come back 6/6 now a tiebreak for 1st set.
Won 1st set 7/3 on tiebreak Fernandez,
Fantastic match so far.Sabalenka, fustrated, smashed her racquet.

Raducanu starting shortly, Not going to get much sleep before I have to go to work which starts in 5 hours.
Hopefully she can win in 2 sets.

Finally on court, about to start.
Raducanu won 1st service game.
Emma leading 2/0
3/0 up now
What a start 4/0
5/0
5/1
6/1 won 1st set in 36 mins
2/1 2nd set
3/1 Emma playing superbly.
3/2
4/2
4/3 Sakkara had a good service game
5/3. 5/4
6/4.
What a final it is going to be, Raducanu. V Fernandez
First qualifier man or woman to ever reach a grand slam final.
Two brilliant women’s semi finals.
Been worth the lack of sleep.

1.5hours sleep ,glad it is Saturday tomorrow so I can catch up with a few zzzzzzzzzzzz’s

To quote my old gran, ‘Well, I’ll go to the foot of our stairs!’

Amazing tennis all round! But what an achievement for Raducanu in particular, first qualifier ever to reach the final of a Grand Slam. Think of all the legends in the game but she is the first :astonished:

Who’s going to win the title?

Fernandez has had longer, closer matches but she has beaten higher seeded players.
She just keeps coming back at them by sheer determination.

Raducanu has not dropped a set in the whole open but has not played a top 10 seeded player.
She seems to be a great thinker and has a way of just finding how to play that makes her opponent not get into a flow.

To be honest it could go either way.
They played against each other once before when they were younger (yes I know they are still only teens) and Emma won but they have both upped their game big time since then.
It is a hard call, but as Brit, I want Emma to win but it could go either way
I am sure it will be an exiting match and they both deserve their places in the final.

8P.M start U.K time.

What does everybody else think?
