Roon corrupts/spams metadata in my database?

That’s good news!

I don’t see any mentions of Gary Sun in the credits of those 1700+ albums. When I search for Gary Sun or Sun Bolun, only two albums came up.

A heuristic we can use is to compare the number of albums of an artist in MusicBrainz and Roon’s data. If the difference is, say, more than 20%, perhaps something is really screwed up. That’s just a detection. Maybe Roon is already doing some sort of data quality check.

It doesn’t help correct those 1700+ album with bad album artists data though. How that bad list of album artists got associated in the first place is still a mystery?

I noticed that streaming services are flooded with a huge amount of albums that are just random compilation of random stuff. This is not unique in Chinese music. It just so happened to have this crazy 1700+ album with a list of 14+ artists (popular ones) that made it easy to see the problem.

Back to one of my questions before, why didn’t these 1700+ albums show up in Stefanie Sun’s discography in Qobuz?

I really appreciate that you keep digging into this problem. As a developer myself, this kind of issue drives me nut. If Roon’s open source, I would have dug into this issue myself to get a deeper understanding myself. Finding out the root cause gives me the greatest satisfaction

Because they are using a single metadata source (their own) and it’s correct.

The problem for Stefanie Sun is fixed. She’s removed from that long list of album artists in those 1700+ albums. But the other album artists are still stuck there.

For example,

None of the artist in the album credit should be associated with the album.

Is your fix just a one-off for Stefanie Sun? I’m only using Stefanie Sun as an example.

The only fix applied so far is for Stefanie Sun. The more general fix is something we still have to do, but I can’t give you any timescale.
