I’ve recently just upgraded my old marantz dac, I’m currently using the mcintosh DS200, it’s way more capable than just 24-bit PCM I’d really like to test it out properly and run some DSD files
It features a quad-balanced 8-channel 32-bit DAC that supports native DSD up to DSD512 (via its USB input specifically)
• Other inputs like coax/optical top out at 24-bit/192kHz PCM, but for DSD files (DSF/DFF), you’ll want to feed them via USB or network streaming (e.g., through Roon, which the DS200 is Roon Ready and Roon Tested for)
My Roon library gets used by all 5 family members. We have a jukebox style setup in the living room that is the primary remote and is constantly playing something. The local library is made up of my large CD collection (30,000 tracks) with Tidal and Qobuz streaming options.
My three boys (13,11 and 7) all have their own HifiBerry endpoint in their bedrooms and use a cheap Lenovo tablet as the remote. The tablets are setup in kiosk mode, so Roon is the only thing they run. Each member of the family has their own profile and for the most part they get used appropriately.
My only rule is no “non-sense”. No Baby Shark or anything like it.
We couldn’t live without Roon. What a great time to be a music fan!
Like @Rugby , I started with Tidal, but changed to Qobuz once it became integrated into Roon. Reasons were:
newer Qobuz albums came with liner notes as PDF files (Tidal did not at the time, don’t know whether that has changed)
Qobuz has a download store for album purchase
I’m on the “Sublime” tier in Qobuz - that gives me discounts on Hi-res album purchases. TBH, I can’t hear any difference between Hi-res and standard CD formats, but the discounts are attractive.
