rooPlay - From LP, CD and iPhone to Roon

thank you. Its kev@robertsonk.com

Very much appreciated.

Sent you e-mail. Good luck :+1:

Hi DeCWO,

can you tell me if THORENS MM-008 ADC meets requirements for integration with RooExtend?
Any suggestion if for price tag 500$?

Thank you

Sorry I can’t :cold_sweat:
maybe someone else in this thread can.

But you can check it out by yourself. Try to find the technical data and there should be somethin it saying “USB Audio Class 2.0”. If you find this the device shall work.

Just received a report from @Michael_Harris that the Audio Technica LP5X Turntable works great with rooPlay.

Thank you @Michael_Harris for your input.

I am thinking to buy the license for rooplay, but first of all i have a question.
My turntable is already pre-amplified. Will this work the same using the Behringer U-PHONO UFO202?
Or am i forced to use a turntable without pre-ampli?

My UFO0202 has a small switch where I can decide if I like the inputs to accept phono or line level. If the Phono Preamp is already in your TT you can set it to Line and connect the outputs of your Phono Pre to the UFO0202. So this should work as expected.

My TT has inside the pre-ampli, so i can connect the RCA from the TT to the UFO022 directly and put it to Line?

Exactly this is what you have to do :+1:
Line and Phono input of the UFO0202 are the same inputs. Then swich decides what signal will be expected.

Hello,
I have just bought a lifetime license for Rooplay (i already have Roodial and Nuimo) and have the Nuimo and Play running on a raspberry Pi, the dial is on another pi.
I have just got an ADL GT40 which i intended to run as ADC which i use with my MC phonostage into Roon via RooPlay. Having set up everything today i am not getting any sound as yet?
I have set up the ‘radio station’ for playback as shown in the youtube video and have set up the jpeg image which displays on the connected TV over the pi.
The ADL states it is USB 2.0 ready in the manual. Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

If you open the rooExtends Service Page there is a button to show some audio infos. Just send them by e-mail to info@definiteaudio.de. But the device mist be connected BRFORE booting the Pi.

Edit:
I read thais Review and Measurements of Furutech ADL GT40 DAC/Phono | Audio Science Review (ASR) Forum and learned that the USB is not async and therefore not USB Audio Class2.

I also did not read that it has a built in ADC. As far as I understood phono can be output via cinch but not via USB. If you can return the unit better do it and spend some more money getting an RME ADi-2 Pro that has an ADC included and far better audio performace.

DrCWO has been very helpful and the RooPlay is now working perfectly, seemingly with less noise than before running through my Arcam pre/pro!
Many thanks to the good Dioctor for helping me out on Christmas Eve too, above and beyond the call of duty! Thank you.
The ADL GT40A does indeed support USB 2.0 asynchronous connection and is much more affordable than the RME option, it even has a built in MM/MC phono stage though i have not tried that feature as i have a nice phono stage already.

Hi @jeremy_davies,
I’m happy you now have a solution that works for you :+1:
I also appreciate the “above and beyond the call of duty!”. Thank you

What really makes me very happy is that we now have the FURUTECH ADL GT40a as a working ADC that is not as expensive as the ADI-2/4. But please don’t mix it up with the elder ADL GT40 (without the “a”). This elder device delivers very bad performance and no USB Audio Class 2! Keep this in mind if you like to get one!

In my eyes the big advantage of the FURUTECH ADL GT40a compared to others like the Behringer UFO 0202 is, that it also has a MC amplifier included and a Clipping LED for better volume matching.

Thank you for sharing this information.

I’ve been successfully using RooPlay for a while now and love the functionality. I recently made a change to my signal path that is causing some intermittent issues that I’m looking to resolve. My original signal path was VTI turntable → Puffin Phono Pre (for ADC) → Puffin our RCA Coax → Coax to Optical converter → Hifime SPDIF Optical to USB converter → RooPlay RPi 4. This setup worked fine for months with no issues.

Trying to simplify some of the wiring, I recently replaced the Coax/Opt converter and the Hifime box with the following device: DA2USB - Digital Audio to USB Interface. This gets rid of one box and 2 power cables. The new signal path now is VPI → Puffin → DA2USB → RooPlay RPi. This new setup “mostly” works. It will work for several days without issue and then when I go to start the RooPlay radio station one (or all) of my Roon end points will output a loud white noise signal. So far, the only way that I have found to fix the issue is to power cycle either the DA2USB or the RooPlay box. (note - stopping and starting the Roon station has no impact). Its almost like the RooPlay box is losing its USB lock with the DA2USB device.

One last note - having the option to power boot/cycle (not just shut down) the RooPlay box from its online console would be a big help. Right now, my RooPlay box is not readily available and I have to move a bunch of stuff around just to get to the box to reboot it.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

  • The audio interface has to be set to USB Audio Class 2.
  • The audio interface probably looses iths input signal. Does this also happen if the Puffin stays on all the time? I have no experience with this interface so only an idea…
  • Don’t use SRC in the DSP settings of Roon.

In earlier releases this was possible but a reboot will disable the external BT antenna as it needs a power cycle to work as it should. This is why this option was removed.

The Puffin stays on all the time and I don’t use SRC in Roon DSP. I did notice the the USB Class setting jumper of the DA2USB may have been set to output Class 1 (if so, would that have even output anything?). Regardless, I’ll reset it to Class 1/2 (initially connects in Class 2) and see if that impacts anything.

My rooplay is Version 1.0.4 is this the latest version? where do we check for updates?
thank you

rooPlay 1.0.4 is the latest. Look at the License Manager it should read v3.3.1, this is the number for the main release. Updates were installed automatically at night starting (OTA update) daily since main release v3.0.0 between 2 AM and 4 AM. So no manual action is required any more

Hello DrCWO.

Im very happy with rooPlay. Once I got the hang of sequencing that startup of rooPlay it has been a wonderful solution to bringing my analog vinyl to Roon… Terrific solution
any limitations for the rooPlay Radio Station delivering 96khz/24 bit content ?

thank you

No limitation. I run my turntable with 24/96 and works perfectly
