Running ROCK on an old desktop

It isn’t that old in the scheme of things. I think if the chipset is Intel you should be OK. The Atom NUC I run an instance of ROCK on dates back to 12/13 and is still in support with Intel.

Bios update (two years newer!!) didn’t make a diffrence…

Guess next step is to try a PCI network card in the poota, see if Roon Rock picks that up?

Worth a try guys?
Or just go back to WIndows Server.

Thanks.

I would definitely try adding a recent-issue network card.

There are USB network adaptors we know work with ROCK.

Now thats interesting…and may just be the answer.
Can anyone suggest a compatible USB adaptor please?

Thanks much.

The Asix AX88179 chipset is the one mentioned a lot with ROCK builds. Inexpensive too off Amazon.

Thanks Henry,

Bought an Asix AX88179 based adapter from the River place, see how I get on with that.

Ah well…
Unfortunately even with the USB Network adapter, the same issue applys.

Life’s too short to grow tumours over this stuff, so going back to tweaked Server 2012 in the meantime whilst I organise a NUC computer to host Roon Rock install.
Totally sold on the idea of Roon as an appliance, having been around the doors enough with OS tweaks and optimisations over the years (Reg tweaks in 95 to unload DLL’s anyone?) to know that nowadays I’d rather have a “fit n forget” solution that just works.
The Roon guys know the score and are hitting it out the park.

Miss my music too much, been a couple of days already!
