Spotify Connect is a big enough feature for me to pay extra for.
As it should be.
Thatâs interesting and not what Iâd expect. My understanding was that Connect effectively hands off the stream connectivity entirely from the device initiating to the target device and then plays no further part.
Is this true for Spotify connectivity native to the target device too? For example, both Bluesound and Sonos have in-app Spotify connectivity and can both handle 44.1/16 natively already.
I can only say we are actively updating our Spotify Connect implementation for this HiFi.
For those platforms with their own Spotify support instead of a standard Connect implementation, I speculate itâs even more work.
So, Denon/Marantz wonât be getting it for five or six years?
lol, and Devialet sometime in 2030⌠honestly, I hope people are working on this!
Here are some of the companies who will be on top of this: Lumin, Nad,Naim,Cambridge.
Remember when AVRs had the crappy built-in Spotify user interface?
Many old and out of production networked AVRs got a firmware update for Spotify Connect that completely replaced that old UI.
Impossible to predict the future of course but I imagine the same effort will be made if itâs technically possible.
No doubt those who use librespot as well maybe affected as that will likely need updating. Is it still actively maintained?
I have huge respect for them and I need to buy one of their AV receivers in the coming years. I fully expect them to have this feature some day, but you may need to buy a new model. They never failed to introduce new features in yearly refreshes of their models.
Spotify Connect is a big enough feature for me to re-org my 2-channel stack to make room for a Bluesound Node.
Once you get used to Spotfyâs user-curated playlists, there is no going back.
Yeah their playlists are the best in the business. No one else is even close.
Blusound announced a new Node (https://www.bluesound.com/products/node/) for June or so (pardon my intrusion if itâs old news for you).
I suspect many who just stream services using Roon, will depart directly to a native Spotify connect environment.
I have a lifetime Roon subscription but I can say without a doubt I will be using it a lot less when Spotify goes lossless.
With all of this hi-es streaming activities I start to wonder how much additional load our digital infrastructure has to carry. Add the the gaming craze and the current Corona related video-conferring to the mix and you have likely a critical load in some regions.
Is that the best we can can with our digital infrastructure? Streaming music and playing games? Sorry, couldnât resist
Porn? Not sorry, couldnât resist!
Spotify Connect seems much better than using AirPlay 2 with Apple Music. The music plays native at the streamer and no longer depends on the phone or tablet. Itâs only going to be cd quality but can see it being upgraded to hires. I sort of like the interface of Apple Music better on the iPhone but Spotify is more personalized and has better features. And compare to Qobuz, thereâs nothing personalized and no user created playlists.
Anyway, whereâs Spotifyâs release announcement. Would think theyâd want to release it before Apple does. And good thing they didnât announce prices back in February. They probably have to do like Amazon and change it to free. And if they do change for it, think a lot of people might move to Apple.
I agree that Spotify Connect is better than Airplay but it is very possible Apple will do Apple Connect like Tidal has done . That would remove Spotifys advantage on that front though they still have better playlists and music discovery than Apple.
Where Apple beats Spotify easily is it is much more attentive to itâs customers . Simple things like alphabetizing playlists too forever for them to do .
Yeah one would assume Apple will improve the way you can stream their content but they already have AirPlay 2 in place and itâs part of a lot of streamers. I havenât been able to figure out if it can currently stream cd quality bit perfect. I think it can but not to Apple TV yet. But no official word on if will be updated to stream hires. Seems crazy that only way to get hires is to directly connect to device. Would think most would want to control the home setups remotely. Spotify already said Spotify Connect will be able to handle lossless when released.
Iâm hoping Spotify has their whole catalog in lossless at launch. That would help fend off Apple.
I just hope all these streaming services figure out the hardware side to get hires into dacs remotely.
