Spotify announce lossless streaming

Let me clarify: In this lossless action Spotify is winning.

In general, Spotify has only posted a profit in a single year in its existence.

Apple could care less about the added expense.

Tidal and Qobuz are being squeezed.

Google and Amazon will continue to grow their market share through their respective ecosystems.

Over the long term it will be Apple, Google and Amazon as the top services.

Not sure this matters here though, if you are using Roon then Spotify isn’t really for you (as your main service).

How do you know that is true?

Again, how do you know that is true? Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell says otherwise and Spotify promoted her message.

Does it? You have no idea if that is true and/or what Spotify will charge for the premium tier.

I said per sub I.e. they aren’t charging extra for it, that’s not me saying people won’t switch from Qobuz, Tidal etc

I say the users don’t care because Spotify hasn’t seen any dip in subs and has grown, if anything, at a faster rate. Users don’t care (when counted in millions).

I do know increasing storage (I.e. storing lossless files) and increasing bandwidth that is streamed does cost money yes. Streaming isn’t free, data isn’t free and storage also isn’t free.

If anyone wants to see what spotifys communication is really like, take a look at their feature request forums.

Given you are complaining about a missing feature on a competitors forum, I’d suggest that Spotify is winning.

Hardly . Making promises to their customers and breaking them is not a winning combination. I’m using Apple now and perfectly happy . Qobuz on Roon too.

It’s terrible .

They are the number 1 streaming service, it is a winning combo (even though I agree it shouldn’t be).

They ain’t making money . Apple and Amazon are . Google too.

Whilst this is technically true, their CEO (amongst others) is doing very well out of the arrangements. The “non-profitability” of Spotify has been a long standing bone of contention when it comes to analysing the future structure of streaming services.

How are apple & amazon making money from music?

I thought most of the streaming companies are still making a loss? Aren’t they acceptable loss leaders for them?

They are all making losses but Apple, Google and Amazon all see it as a gateway to their ecosystems.

Not a single word from Spotify about their failure to offer lossless by the end of the year . Pathetic .

Not a good look .

The list of companies who were once number 1 in their industry but no longer in existence. The price of shortsightedness.

Totally agree that it’s always possible, just saying that currently they are the top dogs.

Especially given that people are commenting on a competitors forum, desperate to use their service.

I believe American Samoa is the last inhabited place to ring in the new year at 11AM GMT. So… Spotify has a few more hours to get their lossless [self moderated] together but they may have to launch from the island of American Samoa to keep their release promise at this point. A fine island for sure!

I’m canceling and moving to Apple Music but only partially because of no lossless. You?

Happy New Years.

Lossless makes no difference to me when deciding on the streaming services.

Happy new year

Er, isn’t that what I said?
