Suggested tablet

Nexus 9 is running Roon quite nicely. Its build quality is atrocious though – simply cannot compare with iPad.

Are any of the tablets listed here likely to work well?

I have a Lenovo A2 Tab 10. I wanted a cheap android tablet, though I mainly use an Ipad. It works OK with Roon, but this tablet has nothing of the feel of an ipad. With tablets you do get what you pay for.

As I could get a good deal on it I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 on a bit of a whim.
I have to say it’s easily replaced my iPad Air 2, which I have now sold and made a slight profit! Well chuffed.

Plenty of pace, to my eyes a better screen, and 3GB RAM (rather than 2GB with most tablets these days) which I suspect keeps the artwork flowing.

As a bonus, it even has an Infra Red function which means I can even use it for my Meridian speakers. Brilliant!

Going to buy a tablet - the main function will be as UI for the Roon core on my server. The tablet will sit in a stand on my desk about 95% of the time.

I’m debating between a 10.1 inch and a 13.3 inch. Any serious advantage with the bigger screen? Everyone seems to think 10 inch is fine.

Also, Windows vs Android: any reason to prefer one OS over the other in this setup – and I mean just in terms of running a Roon interface from the tablet?

Thanks

ive never used android tablets, but i can say that the microsoft surface really is a good tablet!

amazing colours on it compared to my ipad at home, although thats not retina.

I find one attribute of the Surface is attractive: the ability to use it as a laptop when you want the keyboard, but also removing the keyboard and using it as a tablet some of the time. Not useful in all circumstances, but it is ideal for Roon: sometimes a keyboard is useful, but for slouching on the couch the simple tablet mode is great.

(Full disclosure: I work for Microsoft, although not in that division. In any case, I have lots of non-Windows devices too, many great ones.)
