What makes you say such a thing ?
Where did you read that?
Neil Young wrote that. Neil Youngās comment
Whether typed or dictated, itās unlikely a subject on which NY would let somebody else talk for him. His fingers, voice and mind are quite up to performing. Heās better placed to judge the reproduction of his masters than most. I feel youāve somewhat played the man not the ball hereā¦
The discussion on MQA has been taken to a new level by a post by Neil Young.
He has removed his music from Tidal because of the MQA hoax.
PS. This link works on desktops, but appears to give a 404 on mobile devices.
MQA is NOT a mastering process like PCM and DSD but a DSP added after the final copies for distribution. It is not even done at recording studios but in MQA Ltd. Thatās it. MQA wants you to listen to the processed sound, so called the āMQA soundā. This is definitely a big departure if you want to listen to original masters. No matter what claims they have, this is essentially a DSP!
Anyone who want to listen to the original masters, just stick with Qobuz. They answer is clear.
Except for example, when streaming many 2L recordings on Qobuz⦠many of which are MQA on Qobuz.
WRT Neil Young, itās his music so heās entitled to do with it what he wishes. However heās 74/75. As a folk rock musician heās been exposed to serious levels of sound noise over and above typical noise most of us are exposed to in our lifetimes so itās unlikely his hearing is undamaged to some degree in addition to normal hearing degradation due to aging. He acted in a similar way to his music on iTunes. He pulled his music from iTunes in protest at their sampling/rendering of his music for similar reasons. He attempted to launch his own product to render his music that would āfaithfullyā reproduce his music as recorded which subsequently failed leaving many of his backers out of pocket. I sincerely like Neilās music but I feel heās an angry man whoās not accepted his body is aging and instead blames technology for not reproducing his music as he wishes he could experience once again.
If youāre going to go there, do keep in mind many of the HiFi rag reviewers who waxed lyrical about MQA are around the same age, and, one would hope, were also exposed to quite a bit of live music at a time where dB meters werenāt as pervasive for concerts. Stuart himself is 72, and Craven isnāt a young man. Soā¦
Have you read the book itās quite enlightening as to how and why he didnāt quite make it
Thatās the whole idea, Qobuz doesnāt mess with the sound by re-processing it and calling it MQA.
There is no, none, nada, zilch, nothing MQA on Qobuz. And Iām glad it is like that
Thatās the theory, @dabassgoesboomboom makes a good point, some MQA files have made their way on there and the 2L label is an example:
Incorrect. Itās old news since 2019
Plenty of discussion here with Qobuz staff
It is just 24 bit 44.1 kHz that is all.
Incorrect again⦠It is full phat MQA. Read the links shared.
Including the announcement by 2L themselves!
This is old news not breaking news⦠2019.
That proofs that itās just 2x upsampling because the source is 24 bit 44.1 kHz as you can see.
I donāt do upsampling.
