Vinyl sales overtook CD sales in 2022. New Vinyl Reissue series start at a new, accelerated rhythm. Vinyl prices have skyrocketed. Looks like a new golden era for vinyl. The market pays high prices for old vinyl, first pressings. I recommend the book: Charles Mackay: Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds.

Except for live. I do not understand the analogue is distortion. A live orchestra is pure analogue it is not full of distortion nor does it have the usual very bright top end. Analogue is the complete sound wave where as digital is only parts of a sound wave. Philips original is 14 bits of an analogue sound wave. I speak and so do you in pure analogue. As a recoding medium it is very good especially when recoded on a real to real especially at 16 inches per second. What is an issue was and probably is bad pressings. Dirty stampings. Yes i have a fine DAC. I listen to both digital and analogue. I find that you need not only a good front end, ( Turntable ) but also good pressings. Used to have Mark Levinson, Gale and Telarc records. Yes I know that Telarc is digitally recorded but fount that the pressings were a lot cleaner than others. Probably because their main recorings were classical so less pressings than popular, and or knew their clients were more particular.

So, doesn’t that make him an amateur, a hobbyist, instead of a professional? That’s how it works in sports.

I don’t think it matters at all what you want to name it. If you want to use amateur for everyone who doesn’t depend on ongoing work for hire, feel free.
