There shall be no opinion but that of Roon has opened up to more input and a focus on fixing problems, such as memory leaks, scrolling etc.
I fear you overestimate the attention being given. See @mjw ‘s recent take, for example… just because a suit really wanted folder browsing and made the unthinkable impossible inconceivable happen doesn’t mean anything has changed beyond that, quite the contrary: the more opinionated seem to have more time to explore things more valuable to them, and what’s left appears to be what was causing inertia… my personal canari for something having changed with RoonLabs’ attitude is the day it becomes consistently possible to export all locally-stored files to an external drive (let alone one directly attached to the NUC, and not on the controlling computer) without Roon stalling or crashing.
In any case, there’s about a million little and bigger things that could’ve, and maybe, should’ve been done and never were, both user-facing and not.
I think the fundamental problem with Roon is library Vs non library.
I’m not sure about Lyrion, but PlexAmp is library-driven, and while it doesn’t have the interconnection via personnel that Roon does, it offers “sonic similarity” as a workaround, which, in my case and in terms of daily use, I find a more useful metric than knowing whom the sax player on track 7 is.
