Last Saturday we saw The Boxer Rebellion. Small venue, around 500 people. Didn’t know this band, but what a positive surprise!
Steve Smith & Vital Information last night at the Syracuse Jazz Fest. They included covers of Don’t Stop Believin’ (unsurprising) and Back Hole Sun (more surprising!).
Last weekend I attended the Charlotte Michigan Bluegrass Festival run by my long-time friend Wes. I was scheduled to perform there on Thursday. Back in March he rang me up and said " The bad news is I’m going to have to bump you. The good news is I’m bumping you because Billy Strings wants to play the festival on Thursday." The short version is it’s the first festival Billy attended as a child. Wes had booked him a couple times back in 2014 and 2015 before he blew up. He reached out to Wes back in January and asked if he could play the festival again. My understanding his he didn’t charge a fee and they are to make a donation to a battered women’s shelter in Grand Rapids. This is a small festival which typically sees and attendance of less than a thousand. Wes sold 2,000 single day tix for Thursday(which sold out in 12 hours) and an additional 1,000 three-day tix. I’ve got a picture on my phone I’ll try to add. Needless to say it was a huge success but Wes and his staff were totally worn out after it ended. Billy was booked to play Rupp Arena the next night and sadly his mother passed away while at home while they were en route to Lexington. There’s a video on Facebook of him talking to the crowd in Lexington before the show.
Yesterday Mrs. Jay and I enjoyed the album release party of Austrian Neo-Psych-Rockers Hypnotic Floor at Arena Dreiraum. The new album " The Friendly Moss Forest Creatures Lived Happily In Perpetual Twilight" is available since june, 27th. A big suprise was the fantastic performance of support band “Marcel Gidote’s Holy Crab” from Pilsen, Czech Republic.

Just back from Nine Inch Nails in Amsterdam. Good lord. What a production. Unexpected start of the show: Trent Reznor in the middle of the stadium, alone on his piano. Very intimate.
To be followed by a very LOUD and visually stunning show. I want again ![]()
A friend attended the show in Vienna a few days ago and was completely blown away… he saw NIN 10+ times and said the show was one of their best..
Yeah, even the ‘day after’ I find it difficult to explain to friends/collegues how good it actually was…
Slayer and 5 other Heavy Metal bands tonight at Blackweir live outdoor festival in Cardiff.
First up Anthrax
Followed by Amon Amrath
Amazing lineup. Hope you had fun!
It was a great evening thanks.
We missed the first few bands as the gates opened at 5PM and the first band was on before 5:30. We arrived before 7PM expecting to watch Mastodon, but they had a 20 minute set from 6:15, but there was only about 20 to 25 minutes between each band so it was tight and a hard shut off at 10:30 (as it is in a residential area). Anthrax arrived on the stage just as we got there.
Great night of music though and the Metal fans were out in force, with about 25-30 thousand there.
We have to wait almost a year now for the next big outdoor metalfest when Metallica come to play the Millennium Stadium. I already got the wife to move our Holiday so I can be at that ![]()
9-7-2025 Arooj Aftab performing at the Goffert openair theater Nijmegen the Netherlands. A chilly evening warmend up with her music.
I saw Iron Maiden in Vienna yesterday. Despite the muddy sound in the stadium it was a fanastic evening with half of my family and a bunch of friends. The band put on a great show and they mainly played songs from their albums released in the 80s.
First band I ever saw in 1982 and they were already epic back then. Sadly they didn’t come near me this time around
