Not totally floating my boat, though. The 3 star rating is about right IMO.
Edit:
Morrison as a jazz singer takes some getting used to… Some songs are actually sung in a really interesting way. I think I’ll give the album a second chance. Time for a re-listen…
2nd edit:
There are some highlights on this album. Check out “A foggy day” (track 2), “Take it easy, baby” (track 6) and “I get a kick out of you” (track 8). BTW, I think it helps if you turn up the volume a notch or two…
I’m afraid I have to agree. As a lifelong Van fan, I was initially surprised to find out he had a new record out, just three months after his last one. But I too am still a bit underwhelmed by it. Some great songs on it, like Let’s Get Lost, but I know he can do better. And that’s the problem, I guess: it would probably have been a great record for just about anybody, but a mediocre record by Van’s standard.
P.S. Don’t quite agree with your verdict about Van The Jazzman — he sure can swing! Did you listen to the alternate (jazzy) version of Moondance, on the Deluxe Edition? EDIT: or to“Astral Weeks”, for that matter, or “What’s Wrong With This Picture”?
@koen
I’m not an expert on Van Morrison at all. It’s his intonation/phrasing on this particular album that I think takes some time to get used to. His timing is great, though. And yes. I do know his jazzy version of Moondance and like it a lot. I wouldn’t doubt for a second that Van can swing…
Ready for some DA DA DA DAAAAAAAA?
I have more than a hundred recordings of Beethoven’s Fifth. This is one of the best I’ve ever listened to — both musically speaking and in terms of SQ. A reference recording by “Reference Recordings”…

Honeck’s DA DA DA DAAAAAAAAA just ROX — turn up the volume and you won’t need a hairdryer anymore!!!
Listening on Youtube this time.
I’m addicted to this voice for some time now.
