Nice recommendation!
Thought you knew your Bach and Beethoven? Check out these two albums by bassist Dieter Ilg … and think again!
Sounds interesting! Will check this out, thanks!
Missed this brilliant “country noir” artist in Amsterdam yesterday, unfortunately. Discovered his new album too late and was underwhelmed at first, but have to admit it’s growing on me.
Wish I had found out about it a week or so before his concert… He’s very nice and actually quite shy in person (met him at a concert before), just like Townes van Zandt.
Finding myself agreeing with Stephen Thomas Erlewine here : a revelatory reading of the song.
Interesting new “period performance” of Mahler’s Fifth, excellently recorded as well.
This is interesting! The first association that crossed my mind was Jacques Loussier’s Trio, but this is better playing, more original arrangements and definitely more… jazz. Difficult to recognize Bach and Beethoven sometimes though
That’s true. There’s a lot of improvisation going on… But I’m sure Johannes and Ludwig aren’t rolling over in their graves.
I couldn’t agree more. Actually, Jaques Loussier’s never been my cup of tea really. This is so much more creative…
Featuring Ron Carter? As in Miles Davis Ron Carter? Have to listen to that, thanks for the tip!
Yeah, it’s THE Ron Carter, one of my favorite bassists!!!
Yup! Next in playlist.
Was just reading about Iverson leaving the Bad Plus end of this year. Slowly warming up to the new state of affairs.

I’m so impressed with “The purity of the turf”. Iverson, Carter and Waits seem to have a really special chemistry…
I just can’t keep my feet still… AWESOME!
