Another ACE Bob Stanley compilation on pre-order. A fine tribute to the great Paul Williams.

Compiled by Bob Stanley, “We’ve Only Just Begun” is a timely salute to a man hailed as a genius by, among others, Daft Punk. Now in his 80s, Williams is working on a musical of Pan’s Labyrinth with Guillermo Del Toro, hoping for a 2026 opening in London’s West End. He has been chairman of ASCAP for fifteen years now – an institution set up by Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and other forebears more than a century ago – and is long-recognised as one of America’s greatest living songwriters. He isn’t expecting a call from the Rock’n’roll Hall of Fame any time soon, and it doesn’t bother him a jot. “Being clever isn’t really important,” he told Disc in 1972. “I’d rather be honest or moving.”

@Matz wins the “someone mentioned Peter Green, now Jamie has to clap and cry simultaneously” prize. Everyone, please do yourselves the service of listening to his guitar playing on this Otis Spann record. His sense of touch, timing, dynamics, economy, and musical depth of emotion is simply untouchable. He was an absolutely singular talent. I still think he’s the finest blues guitarist Britain ever gifted the world. The vast majority of his recorded output is stunning, but what he did on this album instrumentally is breathtaking.

@MortimerBrewster62, I think the album titling repetition was Andrew Loog Oldham’s idea. Their first album was on Decca and the follow-up was on ALO’s Immediate Records. I think I read that he did it intentionally to cause confusion and cut in on the earlier album’s sales.

The Small Faces are a favorite of mine as well. As you said, they were a visionary band, and Brit R&B powerhouse capable of taking all comers! :muscle:t3:

That band was HUGELY influential. Marriott’s pipes were unrivaled; he was the original human foghorn! How did such a monumental primal wail emerge from such a waif of a man? Magik Mijits, they called them - and how!

Who does this delivery remind us of?

I think it’s streamable, mate. Yeah, our database shows a streamable G.B. version.

And another fine mess our German colleagues have gotten us into…lol.
Tools down, chuck all my toys out of the pram and stomp off sulking.
Best listen to some music to relax.

“It’s fairly straightforward. If you want to start it, you press ‘START’, and you can work out the rest of the controls for yourself.”

It’s one of the quotes I have gotten to use when I have to train up new employees on equipment

Stones, Some Girls live in Texas. Oh boy are they on fire here!
Outstanding performance.

Re steve marriott. Yes he had a great but I feel that he got in the way as his ego took over. Humble Pie were eventually ruined by Marriotts ego. He just took over. Their later live shows were tortuous affairs. Even on rockin the filmore theres a lot of messing around and going nowhere.
I always felt that both the Small Faces and Pie had so much more to offer but were held back by Marriott.

This story sums him up. Its very sad in a way isn’t it because he was very talented.

I believe Green was returning the favor for Spann hanging out on the Fleetwood Mac Chicago Blues Jam album, which is also some tasty soup.
