I have a QNAP- 473. It’s got 4 drives plus an SSD. It’s actually a bit noisy when the fan comes on. Does’t bother me as it is far from my listening environment. It would have bothered me otherwise.
It is not loud. Yet I wouldn’t place it in the living room as you do hear the fan and the disks spinning. Plus it produces some heat. I would recommend to put it in a closet with enough ventilation or another room. It is worth investing in a ethernet cable or a powerline adapter and put the NAS elsewhere.
I would not sit 1m from my TS-451. It would drive me mad.
