And now something completely different…
This band hails from Toronto and they push the limits of the genre in very interesting ways.
I love it.
I’ve never considered country of origin for music selection before.
I think Nova Heart is one of the greatest 80s songs, courtesy of the Spoons.

Daniel Romano and The Outfit have a studio album out. Continuing in the vein of Modern Pressure and the recent live offering.
i was at that Le Guess Who? performance and it was utterly magical
Wow! How lucky is that? I listened to that album (a couple of times) on Arlen’s recommendation and really enjoyed it.
My I forgot about this lot. Thanks for the reminder.
Love me some TPOH, but looking at your list I never realized Sloan was from the great white North. Smeared still gets lot of time on my system after all these years.
Grew up in Detroit, got a Windsor station. 88.7 maybe…good stuff!
I’ve worked with a guy from Toronto on site in D.C. and remotely for 20+ years. Lots of trips to Canada over the years. All of us to the South of you could take a lesson or two on being nicer.
You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet (BTO:)
Very surprised no one’s mentioned kind of the ur-Canadian artists Ian & Sylvia, though I guess I’m showing my age. The harmonies on the early albums still are immediately identifiable, as much a signature sound as BB King’s guitar. There simply has been no one since with the richness, depth, and starkness of their sound.
And after Ian & Sylvia broke up, Ian went on to have success with great recordings of songs of the prairie ranch cowboy life. The recording quality itself is often worth the listen, but Ian’s songs and weathered voice are unique. As a friend of mine once said, “If country music is beer, this is like brandy.”
Back in the 60’s one critic said Ian & Sylvia might be responsible for people saying, “How about some country and northwestern?”
