Why does Roon Radio favor streaming?

How will Spotify change this issue exactly? Not like Spotify is a music manager, you need pc app to load in your own music which is only available on that pc and it won’t play your stuff over streaming.

Jury is still out on how Spotify will deliver and how they will price the HiFi tier. I get Qobuz for $149 annual, and it works well with my Aurender and Roon. I don’t see a need to change. I may add Spotify if they include HIFI at $10/month.

In short Roon Radio is junk and all the talk about AI driven logic, valence and whatnot is just plain marketing speak. The tracks are repetitive, it’s stupid to enough to play the same artist as the starting point literally at the second iteration, the choice of songs are bizarre at times and of course it always plays Tidal tracks over better quality local versions.

I get much better results with Radio on Tidal in terms of the music discovery and track selection.

Roon prioritizes my local files when they are better quality. It’s nothing I configured, it just does.
What I wish is that Roon would prioritize Qobuz over Tidal, which sounds better to me. Oh, yeah. I guess I should just cancel that Tidal. I thought I was in love with MQA, but no longer. I’m afraid of losing playlists constructed with Tidal.

Transfer them to Qobuz using soundiiz.

Great. Thanks, Tim.

You’re welcome. I transferred my entire tidal favourites to qobuz using soundiiz, and it was about 85-90% accurate. It’s worth confirming that you get everything you need sync’d across, or to manually adjust if it misses any tracks. In a lot of cases I did find the tracks/albums in qobuz manually, they had been missed due to naming differences between the two services.

My main problem with this is that the Roon Radio will often pick the most recent “remaster” from Tidal (often times meaning squashed dynamics) over a perfectly dynamic version that’s in my library.
I have discovered a lot of music using the radio function but this irks me.

Quote - “I can’t think of any good reason why it would be preferable to play a track you own in your library from a streaming service.”

I think some audiophiles would argue the providence of the track, knowing their local is the best master at the best resolution and the best quality. To some it makes all the difference, not sure how they know it’s the best but some seem very fixated on it.

I see that behaviour over and over again - playing Tidal version then i have exactly the same local album, recognized by Roon. Local track have the higher quality, bitrate, sampling freq., it does NOT change anything. With the new Daily Mixes it is now even more obvoius.

I have read about all those reasons, different versions and so on, but there are just too many cases to ignore the fact - preferring local version of track just does NOT work as expected and need to be fixed. Setting for that might be just ok, with logic like “if there are album in local libriary with the same name, year, track count, whatever - play the track from the local lib. The end.” Please, stop the community’s frustration about that… No one will blame Roon for play “not that mix”, it is our preference, play choosed by us content, when the album, artist and song match. Just use primary location from the album versions.

I’ll just show some screenshots here…

I never seen for the local file being played from the Day Mixes so far…

I hope, one day @mike or @brian will look into this… This is my one and only big complain about whole Roon experience.

This puzzled me tonight also very much - good to see I’m not the only one beeing irriteted by this behaviour…

Same here, roon always prefers streaming sources when playing radio.
Really annoyed by this behavior.

There used to be a way to restrict Roon Radio to one’s library. That function seems to have disappeared at some point. Could we have it back please - or document where it’s gone to?
TIA muchly!

Whilst playing go into the queue.
Hit the three dots and hey Presto…

The latter two options are not present in the Windows desktop version!

Oops, sorry!!! Missed your comment re when playing from Roon Radio! Will try again.
Thanks for the quick reply!

Found it - the three dots are not the ones for the ‘Queue…’ line but for ‘Roon Radio…’.
Thanks again!

I’m experiencing the same problem with roon radio. Roon radio seems to prefer qobuz albums over the same albums on the hard drive. I really hope roon sorts this out. I have two lifer subs and it really pisses me off that I have to put up with this.

I dont have this issue anymore. Ive noticed its been playing local files over streamed versions.

Lucky you!
I tried again and Roon played two tracks from my library and on the third track went to the streaming service for a track from Sonny rollins’ Saxophone Colossus album. This album is on my hard drive in dsd, identified by Roon and shows up in the versions tab as the primary album alongside 20 qobuz versions. Next, it played ‘Are You Real’ from Blakey’s Moanin’ album. Again from Qobuz whereas its on the drive, identified and showing up in the versions tab. Finally it went back to my library and the file of Coltrane’s Blue train.
Frankly its pretty hit or miss. Roon should always give priority to files in my physical library over streaming services.
