I’m a Senior Citizen (83 in 2017) who started soldering & messing around with electronics (first up was a crystal set) aged 11. First music was via Edison cylinders, then 78s on a wind up gramophone, then LPs, CDs & now Roon. Lots of money wasted along this path on sideways moves to achieve audio Nirvana. By the time I had got there my hearing was deteriorating, one of the great ironies of life!!

I was professionally trained as a mathematics and science teacher but ended up maths only. My career was interrupted by the sudden death of my father (a maths and physics teacher) and that lead to a parallel career in farming business. My father had established a small dairy farm business on our 500 acre property which I subsequently expanded and modernized over the next 20 years, getting involved in leading a number of farmer organisations while rearing a family of 4. Initially part time teaching supported the cost of the farming expansion but ultimately socialising dairy politics sponsored leaving the industry to become a full time teacher in charge of the maths department.

I enjoyed teaching until the school came under the jurisdiction of a headmaster who thought he knew it all and did not appreciate being told something different. Ultimately I left teaching, decided to subdivide the farm and became involved with tourism, after we moved from our old family Georgian home to a new one built on one of the lots. After a few years of running and being involved in tourism organisations the farm, now reduced to around 300 acres, was sold and I retired to pursue A/V activities and maintenance on this 7acre lot.
