16/256 M4 Mac mini as Roon server

I am fed up with multiple reoccurring endpoint and other hardware/software problems in my 2018 mini. While I am an apple fan and stockholder, I am not married to the :apple: ecosystem.

One thing I do want is the HDMI output of any new device to deliver both audio and video.

  1. Is the entry level M4 sufficiently robust enough for my Roon 3500 albums, 54000 tracks
  2. What, if any, other devices can deliver what I want? At a reasonable cost?
  3. The M4 would be my choice for cost and features if the entry level device works well.

Thanks!

Some input:

Running Roon on a Mac Mini M4 with 16GB Ram and 256GB SSD. 800 MB of music files residing on a SSD connected via USB to Mac.

Roon was a fresh and first install on the Mac after initial set up of the Mac. No other SW currently running on it. Mac connected via Ethernet to the router.

2600 Albums and 24000 Tracks. No usage of HDMI so far.

Everything runs smooth and very performant so far.

No update of the MacOS so far. Updated Roon Server and App once.

After Update the audio devices were lost. For remediation needed to
a) restart the Mac
b) toggle switches for Roon and Roon Server off/on in ‘Privacy & Security’ - ‘local Network’ to regain some of the audio outputs Roon Ready (RAAT), Airplay. Chromecast Devices only showed up after restarting the router.

After those steps everything ran like before and stable.
