2 allo/ropieee devices that conflict

as i explained above, the latest version did not work for me previously, but will try it again; names have always been unique…

FWIW, I’m using an RPi 3B, too. Flashing the SD-card images is probably best done using dd or a native Linux startup disk creator package.

i’m using etcher

That’s not reliable nowadays. Use DD. Set values for DISK_IMAGE and DRIVE, e.g., DISK_IMAGE=~/Downloads/RoPieee-main.zip and /dev/sdb.

DISK_IMAGE=
DRIVE=<device>
dd if=$DISK_IMAGE of=$DRIVE bs=1m

i super appreciate your advice; i am not really a linux guy; i have 1 linux machine and it is my music server running roon only; it does have a SD port so i could try this; but etcher did a fine job with the SD card i have running in the suspect machine; let me try the latest rp3 version of ropieee using etcher and see how that goes 1st

If you’re using Etcher from a Mac or Windows, it’s probably fine. I interpreted your comment as flashing the card not working.

no, thanks for clarifying; flashing seemed fine but latest rp3 version of ropieee didn’t work–roon couldn’t see streamer and neither could ropieee.local; but when i flashed 2022 version of ropieee it worked fine; tells me etcher was working but latest ropieee didn’t work with this digione; but will try again later today; appreciate your tip about turning off all the other streamers when i boot up the newly flashed one

so, i figured out why i was having trouble getting the latest ropieee to work: i was not allowing enough time for the streamer to initialize after the hdmi port is disabled (i don’t have a USB monitor).

i was able to flash the latest version to each of the conflicting streamers and get them configured and up on ropieee.local and roon. each has a distinct IP address and name. unfortunately, now the home office streamer won’t play at all–even when i disable the living room streamer (the conflicting one). it is late here so will come back to this tomorrow…

well, no luck. i put the earlier sd card back in the home office digione and it played fine. when i plugged in the other 3 digiones i was back to the same problem: only the home office or the living room would play at 1 time, but not both. to toggle between them i would click on setup for that streamer in roon and then cancel. after that, the streamer i had done that too would play but not the conflicting one (also, roon would rename the streamer that would play after the one that would not :O–each time i’d change the name back in roon; note that the names were still correct in ropieee.local).

today i tried 1 more time with the latest version of ropieee in the home office digione. i reformatted the sd card, flashed the new version with etcher, brought it up with an hdmi cable plugged in so i could see it initialize, waited 15 minutes after the hdmi port disappeared, plugged it into my home office rig, configured it via ropieee.local, configured it in roon and…once again no sound at all.

i’m not sure what to do. my new digione is supposed to arrive today. my plan is to pair it with my rp4 and set it up with the latest ropieee for rp4. maybe that one will not have this problem.

what is going on?

Can you send me feedback of 2 conflicting units?

and in general an advise (for what it’s worth): the Digione is not supported anymore, as Allo is out of business. So if you’re buying a new HAT I suggest you look for something else.

Thanks

what do you mean “feedback”?

new digione is arriving today…

On the advanced tab you’ll find a button labelled ‘Send Feedback’. That will send me an archive with logfile(s) to have a closer look.

Thanks

many thanks!

First of all: upgrade your home-office-ropieee, it’s outdated (2024.04.2)

But besides that: what I see that your units have, in Roon Bridge, the exact same ‘machine_id’, and I think that’s not good.

We’ve seen that in the past a couple of times, but I don’t remember what the solution is. I do feel that this is something Roon should look into, because on my units all 'machine_id’s are unique.

Can you try one thing? On on of the units, go to the ‘advanced tab’ and choose ‘Reinstall Roonbridge’. And send me feedback of that unit afterwards to see if that makes any difference.

Thanks

reinstalling roon bridge did not make a difference. i really appreciate your time and what you do but i explained above that i tried installing the latest ropieee in the home office streamer and no sound would come out. i repeated the entire process a 2nd time with the same result. that is why i am using the 2024 version–it will run and produce sound.

if this is a roon problem, how can i get someone from roon to pay attention?

again, thanks!

Harry - the hardware is being sold again, although no idea if they are able to update / support the drivers.

Can’t post a link if you haven’t seen it.

the seller is Rabas Technologies

Just poke them at support.

I think I do remember that in the past they instructed people to reset their Roon database (not a cool thing to do), because the server somehow got confused and mixed up the endpoints.
