2023 Albums of the Year - Post your favourite releases from the past year here!

It’s the end of the year again - here is a place you can post your favourite albums released in 2023. Your top 10, top 5, top 20, or just your favourite - any and all contributions welcome!

Again, there was a lot of great music released in 2023, but I still don’t think this was quite as good a musical year for me as, say, 2021 was - but here’s my top 10, for what it’s worth:

Album of the Year:

The Dust Coda - Loco Paradise

If anyone thinks that great hard rock is a thing of the past, they haven’t listened to this - a stoater.

Rest of my Top Ten, not in any particular order:

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - Weathervanes
Alfa Mist - Variables
Matteo Mancuso - The Journey
Thy Catafalque - Alföld
Ultralum - S/T
Blue Water Highway - Year of the Dragon
Lifesigns - Live in The Netherlands
Advent Horizon - A Cell to Call Home
Marcus Machado - Blue Diamonds

And the runners up:

Mystery - Redemption
Subsignal - A Poetry of Rain
Robin Trower - Joyful Sky (feat. Sari Schorr)
5th Season - S/T
Legacy Pilots - Helix
Ally Venable - Real Gone
Joe Bonamassa - Tales of Time
Exploring Birdsong - Dancing in the Face of Danger
Empyre - Relentless

Look forward to reading what everyone else enjoyed this year, and all the very best for 2024!

Some great music out in 2023 and I like the Idea of 12 as it’s easier to get to than reducing 2 more off the list

  3. Subsignal - A Poetry of Rain
  4. Uriah Heap - Chaos and Colour
  5. Soen - Memorial

  7. Sufjan Stevens - Javelin
  8. Katatonia - Sky void of stars
  9. RPWL - Crime Scene
  10. The Iron Roses - The Iron Roses
  11. Legacy Pilots - Helix
  12. Slowdive - Everything is alive

Bubbling under
James - Be opened by the wonderful
Natalie Merchant - Keep your courage

My favourite album all year I think

Quite a few could take top honours and most others have been mentioned thus far by others.

Another one would be Haken - Fauna from March. So much so I purchased it last week.

Another, again purchased is

Mixed views by some, but I think it’s great (also bought the live albums from the 2 days at Castle Donnington from the Download festival)

And another purchase

2024 is going to be different for me. Streaming services are now turned off for me. Going to be listening to owned content and buying blind based on reviews. Goal by the end of 2024 is to have built up my own library to around 2000 albums. Being as I’m at 706 albums in less than 6 months I think I may stretch to 2500/3000

Happy New Year to all

After Atreyu, this would be my number 2 album of 2023.
Redlight King - In Our Blood

I could easily have extended my 12 to 20 and still left some very enjoyable albums out while trying to create some balance
