32-bit recording

The new Zoom microphones record in 32-fit float. I process the recordings using Audacity. How should I export the files from Audacity to get the highest quality playing them back using Roon?

Built-In Support

Roon supports the following formats at resolutions up to 32bit 768khz:

  1. WAV

  2. WAV64

  3. AIFF

  4. FLAC

  5. ALAC (Apple Lossless)

  6. OGG

Roon also supports uncompressed DSD64, DSD128, DSD256, and DSD512 content in the DSF and DFF file formats.

Considering that a 32-bit floating point number has a 24-bit significand, and assuming you leave a little bit of overhead, 24 bits should be enough if you don’t want to worry about dithering.

That being said, Audacity supports shaped dithering, so converting to 16 bits is also a good option, since it should not have any audible impact.

Hi @James_Rome,

Since nothing appears to be working incorrectly with Roon in this report, I’m going to reclassify to Roon Software Discussion, where other users are more likely to chime in and no thread timers will auto-close.
